The Abomination of Desolation

Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (KJV)

Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (KJV)

Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. (KJV)

(1) “The first abomination set up in the temple refers to the altar of Zeus, where Antiochus IV Epiphanes sacrificed a pig. This was fulfilled. (2) The abomination of desolation (Mat.24:15) that our Lord spoke of, has not been fulfilled. So part of Dan.12:11 refers specifically to Antiochus IV Epiphanes, and the rest of the prophecy refers to the end times (the Great Tribulation).

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) (KJV)

The abolishing of the daily sacrifice means the removal of worship of the true God, as well as oppression of believers. Antichrist will offer a peace treaty to Israel. Mid way, he will break the peace treaty and an idol will most likely be set up in the Temple after Antichrist puts a complete stop to all worship of God in the Temple. The idol is the abomination of desolation, in my opinion.

Rev. 11:1-2 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. [2] But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. (KJV)

Rev.11:1-2 is what Jesus was talking about in the following. Luke 21:24-B . . . . . and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (KJV) The Temple is more than likely the one which shall be rebuilt in Jerusalem; the one where the Antichrist will demand to be worshipped, after he has put a stop to Jewish worship, after he breaks the peace treaty with Israel (see Rev. chapter 6). “Measuring” is claiming; symbolizing the Temple belonging to God. Measuring (counting) those who worship indicates God is dealing with Israel. This is clearly Daniel’s 70th week
(Dan.9:27). John was told not to measure the courtyard, for God has allowed the nations (Gentiles) to trample it under foot for 3 1/2 years. This clearly indicates that this is the last half of the “week” (which is 7 years, the Great Tribulation).

Rev. 13:13-14 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, [14] And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. (KJV)

This character will have great power attained from Satan. He will indeed do lying wonders and pretended miracles, by imitating the power of God’s Holy Spirit. He will imitate Elijah by bringing down “fire from Heaven.” He will construct an image (idol) of Antichrist, which will evidently be placed in the Temple at Jerusalem (not yet built). I believe this to be the “abomination of desolation” spoken of by Daniel (Dan.9:24-27; 12:11; Mat.24:15).

Rev. 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. (KJV)

To make an image of the Antichrist, whose deadly wound was healed, would be like adding fuel to the already started fire! It would just give form and power to his worship. The False Prophet will also be able to make this idol speak. With today’s technology, this will be no great thing. For those of you who have seen the images at Disneyland, that both move and speak, know this is possible. And with each passing day, new things are brought forth. All those who refuse to worship the image of this beast, will be put to death by the False Prophet.
