End Time Sign . . . War
Matthew 24:6-8 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8All these are the beginning of sorrows. (KJV)
Mark 13:7-8 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. 8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.(KJV)
Luke 21:9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. (KJV)
Many people say that this is not a sign of the end times, because there have been wars since the beginning of time. YES! There have been wars since the beginning, BUT when you look at the frequency and intensity of wars, then it is plain to see that this is a sign of the times we are living in.
All these are the beginning of sorrows . . . all the things mentioned were only a prelude unto more sorrows, and forerunners of them. They were only some foretastes of what would be, and were far from being the worst that would come. These were very light, in comparison of what befell the Jews, in their dreadful destruction. The word here used, signifies the sorrows and pains of a woman in travail. But there was no other way of escaping them, but by faith in the TRUE Messiah, Jesus; and it was for their disbelief and rejection of Him, that these came upon them. These are characteristics of the entire age and are therefore not signs of the end of the age, "but the end is not yet" (verse 6). False Christs, rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes characterize the entire church age, but it seems they all shall be greatly intensified as we draw near to the end of the age. People are starving to death by the thousands, and this situation is going to increase. The black horse of famine (Rev.6:5-6), has not appeared yet, but at the end of the age the black horse and its rider will come forth. What we see today is just the beginning of sorrows. With each passing day, things will worsen.
During the 20th century alone, more people have been killed as a result of war than all previous centuries combined. This has resulted in hundreds of millions of people being killed in wars like World War I, World War II, Russian Civil War, Congo War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq, etc. Today, there are currently about 40 conflicts and wars raging all around the world. And in 2011, armed conflicts greatly increased according.
So is WAR a sign for today? YES! What we must remember is, we are not to take any of these signs ON THEIR OWN. Jesus said: Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (KJV) Matthew 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. (KJV) Emphasis mine.
To take just one sign alone, will not prove we are living in the last days. ALL the signs are needed!
Endless wars today seem to rage in nearly every place on Earth! And the war on terrorism, has become the normal for today. Since 2000, America has been mired in conflict in Sierra Leone, Yemen, East Timor, Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Philippines, Cote d'Ivoire, Iraq, Libya, Liberia, Georgia, Haïti, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Somalia. Besides the vague "radical Islam," the war on terror has no particular enemy and not directed towards any specific country. It has been generalized to include just about anybody that disagrees with the ruling power. It almost guarantees perpetual war. See that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Jesus tells us that war is not necessarily a "sign" of the end of days, rather something that must happen as people continually slide away from the Truth of the Bible, and rebel against God.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. The Greek word translated "nation" is "ethnos" meaning a race, a tribe; specifically a foreign (non-Jewish) one, it means Gentiles, heathen, nation, people. I think an accurate perceptive, would be conflicts between Gentiles (non Jews) and Muslims (descendants of Ishmael).
