HE’S  THERE

He’s there, as I go on that narrow road,
Helping to carry my cumbersome load.
He’s there, as my uphill path does unfold,
He leads in great light, with vast love untold.

He’s there, leading in paths I do not know,
Royal compassion and grace, He bestows.
We walk by our faith, and not by our sight,
With the “Light” of Jesus, ‘tis never night!

He’s there leading me, one day at a time,
He’ll not leave or forsake, a promise so fine.
Tomorrow is a day I won’t fret about,
For He will be there, showing the right  route!

Jesus is always there; always has been, always will be! So many neglect to SEE Him and benefit from His awesome blessings because they are too tied up with the world. He stands outside your heart’s door and knocks. You must open and let Him in. He will never force Himself on anyone. When you allow Him into your life, you will experience His majestic love, mercy, peace and joy.

All Scripture verses taken from:
[KJV] King James Version of the Bible
Red bold italics is Jesus’ words. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. [KJV]

   SALVATION

What is salvation?? Salvation is being rescued from the penalty of sin and from God’s horrible wrath. YES! God has two sides. He is a loving God, without a doubt! But He is also a God of wrath. I cannot teach God’s love and an eternity in Heaven without teaching God’s wrath (holy anger) and the “everlasting destruction” of Hell. If I were to do this, I would be a false teacher! I must be very careful what I teach, for I will be held accountable by Almighty God! James 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. [KJV] This verse terrifies me! So --- just why do I teach God’s Word? One very good reason; that being, when I became a Christian, God gave me the ‘gift’ of teaching, and He told me to go and teach. What I fear more than this verse is refusing to obey God! That is why I teach!
Salvation is as easy as ABC!
A --- ALL people need salvation! ALL people must ADMIT they are a sinner. They must admit they are wrong and God is right! Pride most often steps in and won’t allow the person to do this. Sin is refusing to acknowledge just who God really is; and refusing to admit He is in control; and that He does have authority, over us, over all things! Sin will lead to spiritual death, which is eternal separation for God.
2 Thes. 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; [KJV] You may not think so, but let me warn you, you do NOT want to be in Hell, eternally separated from Almighty God.
B --- BELIEVE God! He plainly tells us the only way to Heaven is through His Son. God loves you and made a Way to receive salvation; so easy that even a child can have it! Simply BELIEVE God!
John 3:15-18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.  [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [KJV]
Do you believe this? Do you believe God?
John 1:12-13  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [KJV] If youbelieve God, and accept His Son as your Saviour and Lord, you are “born again” spiritually, into God’s family! God’s wrath is removed from you!
C --- COME to Jesus! Open the door of your heart to Him! He will never force Himself on you! You must COME willingly to Him, then COMMIT your life to Him!

A --- Admit you’re a sinner, repent! B --- Believe God!  C --- Come and commit to Jesus!

CHRIST IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
Introduction

Some people don’t think Jesus is back there, in the Old Testament. But Jesus is ‘back there.’ He is in the ENTIRE Bible! All the way through it. You can’t pick up the Bible and read very far (in any place) that you won’t soon be reading about Jesus!
Jesus is GOD! We worship a Triune God; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. A while back I wrote a booklet titled “Our Awesome Triune God.” In it I tried to explain the Persons of the Trinity, and the jobs they perform.
We do not worship three Gods as some cults say; but a unique and special, living God, made up of three Persons. All Persons of the Trinity are in complete agreement and harmony in ALL things!
True, the word ‘trinity’ is not in the Bible; but neither is rapture, millennium, or substitution, yet all these doctrines are taught in the Bible.
This booklet will show that Jesus is indeed ‘back there’ in the Old Testament, in every one of the 39 Books that make up the Old Testament.
You will see the different portrayals and names used to describe our God and Saviour, Jesus the Christ (Messiah). There are prophecies about Him, some fulfilled, some yet to be fulfilled. I love to study prophecy that has been fulfilled, because it just proves that everything our God states is TRUTH, and we then know the prophecies not yet fulfilled, will happen exactly as God states!

Seed of the Woman

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.  [KJV] This is the first prophecy in the Bible. Notice what is said about Christ1. He would come in the  flesh. It’s encouraging to sinners, that their Saviour is the Seed of the woman. We all go back to Adam and Eve, including Jesus. He understands how we feel. 2. He would suffer and die. Satan’s bruising His heel is speaking of His human nature. Too Christ’s sufferings continue when saints suffer for His name’s sake. The devil tempts, persecutes and slays them; and so bruises the heel of Christ, who is afflicted in their afflictions. 3. He had victory over Satan. Christ baffled Satan’s temptations and rescues souls out of his hands. By His death He gave a fatal blow to the devil’s kingdom, a wound to the head of this serpent that cannot be healed.
This is a tremendous statement from God. What God is saying too in this verse is that there will be a constant struggle, long and hard, between good and evil. Jesus confirmed this. John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. [KJV] Jesus made quite a distinction between God’s children and Satan’s children. John also mentions the conflict. 1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. [KJV]
Satan is our enemy. He will do anything he can to get us to follow his evil, deadly path. The phrase “thou shalt bruise His heel” refers to Satan’s continual attempts to defeat Christ during His life on Earth. “it shall bruise thy head” implies Satan’s defeat when Christ rose from the dead. God was revealing His plan to defeat Satan and offer salvation to the world through His Son, Jesus Christ. A gracious promise is made of Christ, as the One who would deliver fallen man from the power of Satan.

SHILOH

Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.  [KJV] To me, this is a remarkable prophecy! Shiloh means rest and tranquillity. Shiloh is Jesus, the Christ (Messiah).
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest[KJV]
Not only is Jesus Shiloh, but He is also the One who will hold the scepter. He will be KING! The scepter of the entire universe will be in His nail-pierced Hands! It is clear that Jesus is a descendant of the tribe of Judah (Matthew 1:1-16; Revelation 5:5). Christ had to come from the tribe of Judah or He would not have been the Messiah. Prophecy fulfilled!

PASSOVER LAMB

Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:  [KJV] Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.  [KJV] Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  [KJV] NOTICE: the blood of the lamb was to be placed on the top and sides of the door frame, NOT on the floor.
This is telling me that we are not to “trample underfoot” the Son of God (Hebrews 10:29). So many people today do not consider Jesus to be Holy. They trample Him under their feet. The Blood of Jesus is “precious Blood” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
How can a Holy God receive sinners without violating His righteousness and justice? The answer
is above --- in verse 13. “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” When we believe in Jesus and accept what He has done for us --- die on the cross in our place, God accepts us as His children. We are washed in the precious Blood of Jesus; our sins are gone (Romans 5:1-10). Now, when God looks down on us, He no longer sees our sins, He sees that precious Blood of His Son. He will NEVER turn His back on that! Just as it was when the blood of the lamb was smeared on the door frame, the people were saved from death; so too we are saved from eternal death (Hell) because of the Blood of Jesus.

ANOINTED HIGH PRIEST

Leviticus 8:7-9 And he put upon him the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod, and bound it unto him therewith. [8] And he put the breastplate upon him: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim. [9] And he put the mitre upon his head; also upon the mitre, even upon his forefront, did he put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the Lord commanded Moses.  [KJV] The clothing of the Levitical high priests is symbolic of our great High Priest Jesus with all His exceptional graces and glory. Jesus is the only Priest we need to access God the Father.
There was a heavy curtain in the Temple; it symbolized separating the Holy God from sinful people. When Jesus died, the curtain was torn in two, showing that His death for our sins had opened up the way for us to approach our Holy God. It was torn from top to bottom, showing that God had opened the way. Hebrews 9 gives more information. Jesus is our High Priest!

STAR OF JACOB

Numbers 24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.  [KJV] The star out of Jacob  refers to the coming Messiah. It was most likely that this prophecy persuaded the Magi to travel to Israel to search for the Baby Jesus (Matthew 2:1-2). It seems very strange that God would use a sorcerer like Balaam to foretell the coming of the Messiah. But this teaches us that God can use anything or anyone to fulfill His plans. About 1500 years after this prophecy, we see the wise men from the east searching for the “King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:1-2).
Christ shall be King, not only of Jacob and Israel, but of all the world; all people shall be either governed by His golden scepter, or dashed in pieces by His iron rod. Which shall it be for you?

BRONZE SERPENT

Numbers 21:8-9 And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. [9] And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he
lived.  [KJV]When that bronze snake was hung on the pole, the Israelites didn’t know the fuller meaning Jesus Christ that would bring (John 3:14-15). Jesus tells us that just as the Israelites were healed of their deadly snake bites by looking at the snake on the pole, all believers today can be saved from the deadliness of sin by looking to Jesus’ death on the cross. It was NOT the snake that healed the people, but their faith that God could heal them. Their looking up at the snake on the pole (Christ on the cross) demonstrated their obedience to God’s instructions. In the same way, we should continue to look to Christ (Hebrews 12:2).
Compare their affliction to ours. Sin bites like a snake, and stings like an adder. Compare the applying of their remedy to ours. They looked up and lived, and we, if we believe and go to the foot of His cross, shall not perish. It is by faith that we look to Jesus.
“Whosoever” looked, no matter the severity of his case, or how weak his eyesight, or how far away, he was absolutely and perfectly cured. The venom of the old serpent, inflames our passions,  causing us to commit sins which end in our eternal destruction. As the Israelites felt pain from the bite of the fiery serpents, and feared the death which followed, we too should fear the consequences if we don’t look up to Jesus! Our crucified Saviour should be highly valued, and ALL other things  should be counted loss for Him. Don’t abuse the freeness of Christ’s salvation! Only Jesus can save us!

A PROPHET LIKE MOSES

Deuteronomy 18:15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;  [KJV] Moses himself told the people of Israel that God would raise up a “Prophet like me” from among your own people (Acts 7:37). God promised that there would come a Great Prophet (Jesus), far above all the other prophets; by whom God would make Himself known, and also His will to the people, much more clearly than He had ever done before. Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12). He is the Word through whom God speaks to us, John 1:1; Heb 1:2. Jesus would be like Moses, only above him. This Prophet came, and is “He that should come,” and we are to look for no other. Whosoever refuses to listen to Jesus, shall perish. Woe to those who refuse to listen to His voice, or accept His salvation.  But happy are those who trust Jesus, and obey Him, for He leads us in paths of safety and peace, until He will one day bring us to the Land of Perfection.

THE GREAT ROCK

Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.  [KJV] This is the first time God is called “the Rock”  in Scripture. Rock represents God’s Divine power, faithfulness, and love, as revealed in Christ Jesus and the Gospel. Rock signifies a firm foundation which cannot be changed or moved, One on which we may build our eternal hopes. Under His protection we can find refuge from our enemies and our troubles. “His
work is perfect:” speaks of redemption and salvation made possible only through Him. Jesus is indeed just and right.

CAPTAIN OF THE LORD’S HOST

Joshua 5:14-15 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? [15] And the captain of the Lord's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.  [KJV] Many places angels bring God’s messages to people in the Old Testament. But this is NOT an angel! Angels won’t allow anyone to worship them. In the Book of Revelation, John was rebuked twice for falling down and worshipping an angel (Rev. 19:10; 22:9). This is none other than the pre-incarnate Christ!

MESSENGER OF THE LORD

Judges 2:1 The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim with a message for the Israelites. He told them, "I brought you out of Egypt into this land that I swore to give your ancestors, and I said I would never break my covenant with you.  [NLT] I truly believe this “Angel of the Lord” is none other than the pre-incarnate Christ, as in the previous verse.

KINSMAN-REDEEMER

Ruth 2:1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.  [KJV] Boaz was always sensitive to people’s needs. He had nothing but kind words for everyone. He helped people willingly, not grudgingly. When he found out who Ruth was, he tried to help her because she had been faithful to his relative Naomi. Boaz not only did what was right; he did it promptly. He couldn’t see what the future would bring. He couldn’t have known the child he and Ruth would have would be an ancestor of David and Jesus. Boaz was a ‘type’ of Christ. We too have a Kinsman and Redeemer, One made like us, only He is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. (Heb. 7:26).

GREAT JUDGE

1 Samuel 2:10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.  [KJV] This is speaking of Messiah (Christ), which is the title of our Lord Jesus. ALL Christ’s enemies will be broken to pieces (Psalm 1:9), but God’s children will be safe. Keep in mind that the Anointed, the Lord Jesus, is well able to save, and well able to destroy.

SEED OF DAVID

2 Samuel 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.  [KJV] Christ will one day sit on the throne of David, as told by the angel Gabriel to Mary.
Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [KJV]

LORD GOD OF ISRAEL

1 Kings 8:23 And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:  [KJV]  Solomon gives glory to God, as we should do. God’s Promises must guide our desires, and be the ground of our hopes in prayer. The sacrifices, the incense, and the whole worship service of the temple, were all typical of the Redeemer’s offices (offerings and intercession for us). The Lord God of Israel is the Messiah (Christ), our Lord Jesus. There absolutely is NONE other like Him!

GOD OF THE CHERUBIM

2 Kings 19:15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.  [KJV] Some people don’t believe Jesus made the Universe. He did! Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; [3] Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; [KJV] Jesus is He who sits between these mighty angels!

GOD OF OUR SALVATION

1 Chronicles 16:35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.  [KJV] Let us triumph and trust in God our Saviour. We should give glory to God’s Name with humble thankfulness. Jesus is the God of our salvation. God the Father made a Way for us to have His promised salvation; and that Way is God the Son, Jesus. We have great reason to celebrate that every single day; for we receive many daily benefits, and His blessings can never be depleted.

GOD OF OUR FATHERS

2 Chronronicles 20:6 And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?  [KJV] Every true believer (through faith) is a son of Abraham, and a friend of God. The everlasting covenant was  established for those of faith, from Abraham down to us, and to every believer this Promise belongs. We are assured of God’s love, by His coming in the form of Man, and in the Person of our Saviour.

LORD GOD OF HEAVEN

Ezra 1:2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.  [KJV] When Jesus was on Earth, He was veiled in human flesh. He was GOD, but His glory was not visible. He laid aside His glory while He was here, for usBut He was God, in a human body. When He was rejected by His people (John 1:10-11), He suffered and bled and died (for us), and was resurrected where He now sits at the right hand of God (Hebrews 10:12; 12:2) where He is for now, Lord God of Heaven.

COVENANT KEEPING GOD

Nehemiah 1:5 And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:  [KJV] God’s “covenant of love” refers to God’s promise to love the descendants of Abraham. It is also mentioned in Deut. 7:7-9. Deuteronomy 7:7 The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:  [KJV] The Jews are not the only people God loves. A word of warning: God still loves the Jews although many think He does not! They are His “chosen” people and He will always love them! God chose the Jews to be the people through whom the rest of the world would come to know Him; fulfilled when Jesus Christ was born as a Jew. Through Him, the entire world is able to know God. God accepts people from every nation who fear (reverence) Him and obey Him (Acts 10:35). God accepts everyone who will believe and worship Him, no matter what their race, sex, or nationality.
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. [KJV] But, as the Jews were “the fewest of all people,” so too are TRUE Christians. All believers are true descendants of Abraham (Galatians 3:6-9).

THE GOD OF PROVIDENCE

Providence is God’s guidance and intervention. The Book of Esther gives us a tremendous picture of this. Jesus is certainly the God of Providence.
Esther 7:10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai --- . [KJV] Haman hated the Jews, as do so many people today. But God plainly states: “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee” (Genesis 12:3). God definitely “cursed” Haman for his hatred of the Jews. There is a day  coming when all those that hate and persecute God’s chosen ones (Jews or Christians), will regret their decision to do so. Haman built a gallows where he intended to hang Mordecai; but his evil plot backfired to say the least! It was Haman who was hanged on his own gallows! Let us rejoice in the Divine righteousness of our God of Providence!

THE RISEN AND RETURNING REDEEMER

Job 19:25-26 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: [26] And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:  [KJV]
Job was sure that this Redeemer was a living Redeemer, and he expected salvation through Him.  He was sure that He would come in the flesh; and that at the last day He would appear as the Judge of the world, to raise the dead, and Job was sure he would see Him Face to face. This is a great testimony by Job of the resurrection of both Jesus and us!

The Book of Psalms portrays Jesus in many ways:

THE ANOINTED SON

Psalm 2:7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.  [KJV] This verse is NOT talking about Jesus’ birth, but His resurrection (Acts 13:33). Jesus was never “begotten” in the sense of having a resurrection).
Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.  [KJV] To “kiss the Son” means to submit to Him. It means to “believe on Him and be saved” (Acts 16:31). Christ is God’s chosen King, and He should be the rightful King of our hearts and lives. To please God, we must submit to His leadership every day.

THE HOLY ONE

Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.  [KJV] David knew that God would not leave Jesus dead in the grave. So many people fear death for they cannot control it or understand it. But as believers, God reassures us He will not forget us when we die. We like Jesus, will be brought back to life again to live with Him forever. What tremendous comfort and security.

OUR SHEPHERD

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  [KJV] Sheep are completely dependent on the shepherd for their needs, guidance, and protection. The Lord is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep; not scared, inactive animals, but obedient followers, wise enough to follow One who will lead us in the right ways to right places.
King of glory shall come in. [8] Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. [9] Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. [10] Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. [KJV]
The King of Glory is the Lord of hosts, the Messiah Himself, eternal, Holy, and mighty. This may also be applied to Christ’s entrance into the souls of men by His Word and Spirit, “He stands at the door and knocks,” Rev. 3:20. The gates and doors of the heart should be opened to Him, for He is the rightful owner. This too, can be applied to His second coming with glorious power. This also looks forward to Christ’s future entry into the new Jerusalem to reign forever (Rev. 19:11-21). Lord, open the everlasting doors of our souls by thy grace.

THE WISDOM OF GOD

Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. [27] When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: [KJV] The entire 8th chapter of Proverbs speaks of wisdom. Great reading! Wisdom, here is Christ, in whom are ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Christ is in the Word, and Christ is in the heart. Any time we seek Christ, we will be given wisdom! Not only is Christ revealed to us, but Christ is revealed in us. early and sincerely, seek Him above all else. IF we seek Christ, we will never seek in vain! Wisdom is not for days and months and years, but for eternity; her fruit is far more better than gold.

SATISFACTION IMPOSSIBLE
WITHOUT CHRIST

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  [KJV] The Book of Proverbs shows us Solomon’s wisdom whereas the Book of Ecclesiastes shows us Solomon’s foolishness. Solomon finally did arrive at the right answer though; NO one can ever be satisfied in any way, without Christ. I have known some extremely wealthy people who were not the least bit happy or content in their life, simply because they did not have Christ in it. There is NO answer to the problems of life “under the sun” without Jesus.

CHIEF AMONG TEN THOUSAND
ALTOGETHER LOVELY

Song 5:10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.  [KJV] TRUE Christians should do all they can to make others know something of Him, and that is not an option, but a command (Mat. 28:19-20). Divine glory makes Him truly lovely in the eyes of all who have Him in their hearts. He is white; spotless and live in His Light and to His glory.
Song 5:16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.  [KJV] Jesus is “altogether lovely.” Is He lovely to you?

VIRGIN BORN IMMANUEL

Isaiah 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.  [KJV] Nothing grieves God more than distrust. BUT the unbelief of man shall not nullify the Promise of God; the Lord Himself gave a sign. The Messiah was prophesied to be born over 700 years before the event. He was born exactly as stated here in God’s Word (Matthew 1:18-25).

WONDERFUL, COUNSELLOR, THE
MIGHTY GOD, THE PRINCE OF PEACE

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  [KJV] Wonderful Counsellor; no one teaches like Him. Jesus is God, the mighty God. He is God, one with the Father. As the Prince of Peace, He reconciles us to God; He  gives us peace in our heart and soul. When His Kingdom is fully established, there will be no more war anywhere! The government shall be upon Him; He . . .

THE MAN OF SORROWS

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  [KJV] Jesus was despised and rejected while on Earth, and He is still despised and rejected by millions today. You can reject Jesus by standing against Him. You can despise Christ and His great Gift of forgiveness by refusing to believe and accept Him. A person either despises Him, rejects Him, or accepts Him?  His whole, short life was not only humble but also sorrowful. When He was crucified, He was made sin for us, He bore the burden of the sentence of sin, for us. Unbelievers see nothing in the Lord Jesus that they want. Such a shame! Even believers despise Him by their disobedience to Him, and they reject Him by not living up to His doctrine and authority!

THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

Jeremiah 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.  [KJV] (Also see Jer. 33:16).
Christ is completely righteous Himself, and only through Him can His people be made righteous (Romans 5:1). Christ breaks the grasping power of sin and Satan. All the spiritual seed of believing our Righteousness” is truly a wonderfully sweet Name to a converted sinner.

FAITHFUL AND COMPASSIONATE GOD

Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  [KJV] Because of the Lord’s great and abundant love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. God will respond and help us in some way, when we ask. Is there some sin in your life that you thought God will not forgive?  God’s dependable love and mercy are greater than any sin, and He promises forgiveness, if we are truly sorry and repent (1 John 1:8-9).

THE LORD IS THERE

Ezekiel 39:7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.  [KJV] In the entire Book of Ezekiel, the Lord is present. Ezekiel looked far beyond the sufferings of Christ. He looked past that and saw the glory of Christ when He returns as rightful Lord and King. The phrase “ye (or they) shall know that I am the Lord” is repeated well over 40 times in the Book of Ezekiel. The Name of Jesus is most certainly a “Holy Name” but it is being “polluted” today just as it was back then, maybe more. One day the whole . . .

STONE / SON OF GOD / SON OF MAN

Daniel 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.  [KJV] The stone cut out without hands, represented the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the same Stone which the builders rejected (Matthew 21:42). This same Stone is become the Foundation and Cornerstone of His church. The Lord shall reign for eternity.
Daniel 3:25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.  [KJV] This is fulfillment of  that great Promise in Isaiah 43:2, “When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned.” God delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego because they refused to bow to the idol made of gold. They were encouraged by the Presence of the Son of God. Their faith brought them through. Those who suffer for Christ, have His Presence with them in their sufferings, even in  fiery furnaces, and in the valleys of the shadow of death. Man can hurt our bodies, but he can never touch or harm the souls of God’s children.
Daniel 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of clouds of Heaven picture Jesus as divine. All  through the Bible, clouds represent His majesty and awesome Presence (Exodus 16:10; 19:9).

KING OF THE RESURRECTION

Hosea 13:9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.  [KJV] Israel had destroyed herself by her rebellion. Their only hope was from the Lord; He and He alone. We can apply this to spiritual redemption as well, from that lost state into which we all have fallen by our willful sins.
Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.  [KJV] The apostle Paul used this very passage to teach the resurrection of our bodies from death
(1 Corinthians 15:55). For all those who have trusted in Christ for deliverance from sin, death holds no threat of destruction (in Hell).

HE IS STRONG,
GIVER OF THE SPIRIT

Joel 2:11 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?  [KJV] The “day of the Lord” is the Great Tribulation period. Jesus spoke of it: Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. [KJV] Jesus will be the One in charge of the final battle (Revelation 19:11-21) which shall end in complete victory.
Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:  [KJV] Notice: this Promise states that God will send His Spirit upon ALL people, men and women, young and old alike; ALL who trust the Lord Jesus to save them. Peter quoted this passage (Acts 2:16-21), on the day Pentecost. In the Old Testament, God’s Spirit seemed available only to kings, prophets, and judges; but Joel predicted a time when the Spirit would be available to every believer. God’s Spirit is now available to anyone who calls on the Lord (Joel 2:32; John 14:16, 26; Romans 8:9).

GOD OF HOSTS / THE PLUMBLINE

Amos 4:13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name.  [KJV] It is Jesus that created all these things and more (John 1:3; Hebrews 1:1-2). He is the God of Hosts.
Amos 7:8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what to make sure that a wall is straight. A wall that is not straight will fall down in due time. Jesus wants people to be right with Him; He wants the sin that makes us crooked to be removed, lest we fall down. Jesus is the perfect Plumbline that God has set in our midst. Do you measure up?

DESTROYER OF THE PROUD

Obadiah 1:8 Shall I not in that day, saith the Lord, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?  [KJV] The Edomites were known for their pride. But, what they considered their strengths would be their downfall: (1) safety in their city (1:3-4) God would send them plunging from their heights; (2) pride in their self-sufficiency (1:4) God would humble them; (3) wealth (1:5-6) thieves would steal what they had; (4) allies (1:7) God would make them enemies; (5) wisdom (1:8-9) the wise would be destroyed.
The Edomites may have been wise in the ways of the world as are millions today, but they were foolish because they ignored and even mocked God. God did not proclaim these harsh judgments out of vengeance but in order to bring justice. God is morally perfect and demands complete justice and fairness. The Edomites simply got what they deserved; because they murdered, they would be murdered, because they robbed, they would be robbed and because they took advantage of others.

THE RISEN PROPHET

Jonah 2:10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.  [KJV] Jonah tried to disobey God’s command to go to Nineveh, the capital of the great empire of Assyria, which was Israel’s mortal enemy. Jonah refused, and that’s when God had this big fish ready to teach Jonah a lesson. Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a big fish (whale). Jesus spoke of this (Matthew 12:39; 16:4). The whale vomiting out Jonah was looking forward to Jesus’ resurrection. Luke 11:30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation[KJV]
Jonah’s deliverance was a example and pattern of Christ’s resurrection.

THE GOD OF JACOB

Micah 4:1-4 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. [2] And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
[3] And he shall judge among many people, war any more. [4] But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it.  [KJV] None of these things have taken place yet, but rest assured, they will happen! The Kingdom of Christ will be unique: there will be no more war! There will be no more fear of man. Jesus will teach us His ways and we will walk in His paths. Every man will make his own living, and not depend on handouts from the government or stealing from others to support them and their families.

THE BETHLEHEM BORN

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.  [KJV] Micah accurately foresaw Christ’s birthplace hundreds of years before Jesus was born. The promised eternal King in the line of David, who would come to live as a Man, had been alive forever “from of old, from everlasting.” Although eternal God, Christ entered human history as the Man, Jesus of Nazareth.

THE PARDONING GOD

passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. [19] He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.  [KJV] Sin brings us into bondage, but God’s pardoning our sin brings us out of that enslavement. Anyone (whosoever) can find pardoning mercy through Christ, yet those who receive it cannot help but marvel at His mercy and grace. We stand amazed, knowing His mercy takes away the guilt of sin. He breaks the power of sin, so it no longer controls us. The Lord gives us the security of His Promise, a strong comfort to all who flee to Him for refuge. We have great hope set before us in the Person of Christ Jesus, our precious Saviour and Lord.

THE AVENGING GOD

Nahum 1:2 God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.  [KJV] Only God has the right to be jealous. God simply insists on our complete faithfulness and loyalty; and it is perfectly right and just for Him to punish all unrepentant evildoers by carrying out vengeance. Jealousy and vengeance may seem unanticipated terms to associate with “a loving God.” When humans are jealous and take vengeance, they act out of selfishness. Selfishness has no part in God’s jealousy and vengeance. Their purpose is to remove sin and restore peace to the world (Deut. 4:24; Deut. 5:9). God is always slow to wrath and ready to forgive, but He will by no means acquit the wicked (unbelievers John 3:36)!
thy vowsfor the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.  [KJV] Isaiah uses similar words in Isaiah 52:7. What God is saying is: “Don’t leave me, don’t wander off from me, for I will defeat your enemies.” There is much  planned against the Lord and His kingdom by the Deceiver (Satan), but it will all prove to be in vain. One way or another, Jesus will make an utter end of all His enemies. Though they feel secure, and have no fear, they shall be cut down as grass. But God will work great deliverance for His people. The “good tidings” of our great redemption brought by our Lord Jesus and the everlasting Gospel shall be welcomed with abundant joy. Christ’s ministers (ALL believers) are messengers of good tidings (Romans 10:15), that preach peace by Jesus Christ. This is  welcomed by those who see their misery and danger of their sin! We can look forward with grateful hope to an eternal world where the wicked can never enter, and sin and temptation will never be known, ever again (Revelation 21:8, 27; 22:14-15).

THE EVERLASTING AND PURE
HOLY ONE

Habakkuk 1:12-13 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? We shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for than he?  [KJV] Jesus is the Lord our God, our Holy One. We are an offending people, and He is the One being offended. Evil may seem to prosper but since God is holy, and does not approve of any wickedness; and since He Himself cannot sin, the end result will be that He will be victorious over all evil. He is of “purer eyes” and He will not tolerate evil and wickedness, nor approve of it in any manner. All evil will be judged!

THE GLORIOUS ONE

Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.  [KJV] The glory of the Lord Jesus does not yet fill the Earth; but one day it will! Today, mankind strives for their glory, not the glory of the Lord! The lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16) are snares and pitfalls that entangle lives; tricking people into thinking they can have glory in this world. And true, many do achieve that fame and glory, but it will be only in this world, not for eternity. Riches are like thick clay that bogs most people down into destruction and perdition. Covetousness (greed, idolatry) brings disquiet and uneasiness to a person. We as God’s children should not be concerned with any glory for ourselves, but in all we do and say, we should glorify God our Saviour.
thou shalt not see evil any more.  [KJV]  We sin when we look for happiness somewhere other than Jesus, the only One who can truly make us happy. If you want to be happy, you must go to the one and only true Source happiness, Jesus! He will save you; He will give you peace; He will forgive your sins; He will give you joy as you have never known before.  The Lord Jesus will save even the weakest believer.  He acts with love and mercy and grace to anyone (whosoever) turns to Him in faith. Our hearts should honor the Lord, and rejoice in Him. The joy of believers can be perfect, unchangeable, and eternal, when we are freed from earthly sorrows, and know that eternal life awaits us in Heaven.

DESIRE OF ALL NATIONS

Haggai 2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.  [KJV]
The “desire of all nations” refers to the Messiah, Jesus, who some 500 years later, would enter the temple and fill it with His glory and His peace. The Presence of the Messiah, the Son of God, the Lord of glory, should be the “desire” of all nations and all peoples! If God be with us, His peace is with us. Spiritual peace comes by and through Jesus Christ, and has by His precious Blood been purchased for all believers. So many nations today reject Jesus, and worship their own gods, but one sweet day every nation shall flock to Him.

THE BRANCH

Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.  [KJV] The “Branch” refers to the Messiah. Whatever trials we go through, or whatever services we perform, everything depends and rests on Christ, the Branch of righteousness. He is God’s Servant, doing His work, always obedient to the Father’s will, and faithful to His honor and glory. Jesus is the Branch from which all our fruit must be gathered. All believers look to Jesus with faith, hope, and love. For it is only by Him that sin’s guilt and dominion can be taken away. He did it that one day when He suffered and died. Now, we can sit down under the shadow of Christ at the cross with delight, for we are protected by it. Christ shall reappear one day soon for all His chosen, for God will bring forth His Servant, the Branch.

KING OF TRIUMPHAL ENTRY

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.  [KJV] The Triumphal Entry of Jesus riding into Jerusalem to come true. We must be watching and ready for His return, for He is coming!

PIERCED ONE

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.  [KJV] At this time, here foretold, the Jews will know who the crucified Jesus was. It will be then they shall look by faith to Him, and mourn with the deepest sorrow, not only in public, but in private. Holy mourning is fulfilled in all who sorrow for sin, as they look to Christ crucified.
The Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost, 50 days after Christ’s resurrection (Acts 2). It is this Spirit who convicts us of sin, reveals to us God’s righteousness and judgment, and helps us as we pray. Eventually ALL people will realize that Jesus, this unique Man who was pierced and killed, is indeed the Messiah. The crucified Messiah will be clearly revealed. Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  [KJV]  In Christ’s first coming He broke all the powers of darkness that fought against God and His Kingdom. In His second coming, Jesus the Pierced.

THE KING OF THE EARTH

Zechariah 14:9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.  [KJV] Many times in the Bible we are encouraged to watch for the day of the Lord. What if we knew exactly when He would appear? Would we live differently? Christ could return at any moment. We need to be ready for our King by studying the Bible carefully and by making sure that we live as He wishes; by our willing obedience and spiritual readiness.

THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.  [KJV] In the Tribulation, God’s wrath toward the wicked will burn like a furnace. But He is like the healing warmth of the sun to those who love and obey Him. John the Baptist prophesied that with the coming of Jesus, the dawn was about to break with light for those in sin’s darkness (Luke 1:76-79). In Isaiah 60:20 and Rev. 21:23-24 we learn that no light will be needed in God’s holy city, because God Himself will be the light. The last verses of the Old Testament are filled with great hope. Despite how life looks now, God controls the future, and everything will be made right. We who love and Christ is a joyous Light to all those who serve Him faithfully.
By the Sun of Righteousness (Jesus Christ), believers are justified (made right Romans 5:1) and sanctified (set apart for God), and are brought out of sin’s darkness into His glorious light. Christ gives the Holy Spirit to all those who are His (Romans 8:9), to shine in our hearts, and to teach and comfort us. Christ came as the Sun, not only to bring light to a dark world, but health to a diseased and sick world. Souls of the righteous (God’s children, John 1:12-13) shall increase in knowledge and spiritual strength. Their growth is like that of “calves of the stall,” pampered and cared for. Any victories we have are all owed to Jesus’ victory on the cross. How great is the happiness of the believer, when he goes from the darkness and misery of this world, to rejoice in the Light of the Lord for evermore!

I copied the following words in my Bible many
years ago. I don’t know who wrote them but
they describe the Sun of Righteousness.

He’s the Light that shines in darkness,
He’s Sunshine after a rain.
He’s Rest and calm assurance,
After weariness and strain.

The BIBLE has the answer
