How Bad Is The Wickedness of Man?
Genesis 6:5-7 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. (KJV) As men multiplied on the face of the Earth, so did their willing, sinful disobedience to God! Many of the offspring of Seth, who knew and worshiped God, married into the ungodly line of Cain, and produced children who were unbelievers. Soon the exploding population of Earth had only one desire; to satisfy their sinful lusts. They spent all their time seeking new ways to gratify (please) their flesh. Gen.6:11 & 13 further states the Earth was filled with violence. Does any of this sound familiar to you? To me, it sound just like today’s world! Genesis 6:11-13 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. (KJV) The true nature of sin, is that it grows quickly and spreads into every nook and cranny. Its destruction not only effects the one sinning but also those around him. And my friend, even the so-called little sins are sins and always lead to bigger sins. Sins of the heart such as bitterness, hate and unforgiveness grow and lead to the sins of physical attack, violence and murder. This was the picture before the Flood. Man's EVERY action was sinful and this led to great violence. I truly believe that if God did not have His Hand firmly upon Noah, those wicked people would have killed Noah! It would be reasonable to assume that personal violence led to mob violence. Government then was thoroughly corrupted. There was no justice or place to appeal. There was no peace on Earth, for all mankind had become extremely corrupted except for Noah and his family. Again I say, look at today’s world! Those on Earth in Noah’s time, had MORE than ample warning that the Flood was coming. I believe that man knew it was a judgment from God and Methuselah, Enoch and Noah warned the people at that time to repent and be saved . . . but, the message of redemption fell on ears that were completely deadened by sin. Methuselah was the son of Enoch, the father of Lamech and the grandfather of Noah (Gen.5:21-27; Jude 1:14-15). God’s looking down on Earth, made Him extremely grieved at man's sin and sorry He had made man. The phrase, it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, is easier understood that God was sorry He had made man because of his sin. This shows God's just and holy displeasure with man's sin and disobedience even when openly warned. In other words, God was sorry that man had become so sinful and He had to take action to stop it. My friend, today God also warns us of sin's destructive nature. He warns that JUDGMENT IS COMING. Yet, man is willingly blind to the warning. People today scoff at even the very existence of God. 2 Peter 3:3-18 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (KJV)
Peter says that those that perished were also willingly ignorant. They chose NOT to believe the Truth and they perished in the Flood. Peter makes the point as well that the Earth today is reserved for judgment, and it will surely come. At the time of the Flood, when the waters began to rise, the then population, too late, understood the Truth. When I read the account of the Flood in Genesis . . . I can hear the people screaming and scratching and banging on the door of the ark . . . BUT . . . Noah could NOT open the door . . . because God had SHUT it! (Gen.7:16). Are YOU going to wait until it is too late for you to enter the ark? My friend, JESUS is the Ark today! Get aboard before it is too late! http://www.hisservants.org/truth_about_salvation_h_s.htm
