Characteristics of Our
Awesome Triune God
The attributes (characteristics, features, qualities) of God, mean His nature . . . it is WHO He is . . . it is His revealed character. The following will give you a better idea of Who God is, and that He can be completely trusted to keep ALL His Promises . . . be they good OR bad.
*****Omniscient (all-knowing). God knows everything and His knowledge is absolutely complete.

1 John 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. (KJV)
*****Omnipotent (all-powerful). When God makes a Promise, we can be assured that He is well able to keep that Promise. He has no outside limitations. His only limits are those that He places upon Himself.
Genesis 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. (KJV)

*****Omnipresent (present everywhere). God being omnipresent means that He is present in all places at all times. His mighty throne is in Heaven, but He is also present everywhere!

Revelation 4:5-11 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. 7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. 9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (KJV)
*****Righteous (good, moral, honest). God’s holiness is shown in His righteousness. Because He is holy, He is righteous. The attribute of righteousness is the way His holiness is expressed when dealing with men.
Exodus 9:23-27 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. 24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail. 27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. *****Love (care, concern, compassion). If there is one attribute that we can connect to our awesome God, it is love, and the FACT that God IS love! LOVE sums up His mercy, grace and loving-kindness for us. God loves His children and He wants a personal One on one relationship with us. 1 John 4 talks at length about God’s love . . . not just that God has love for us . . . but that He is love! The Bible is full of great verses and passages about the topic of love.

*****A Trinity (Our Triune God). Our God is one God . . . but he reveals Himself to us in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament often the plural form of the Hebrew word God is used when speaking about Him (Elohim). The Bible refers to the “Angel of the Lord” several times. This, I believe to be a reference to a physical revelation of the pre-incarnate Christ Jesus (Genesis 16, 18).
The Holy Spirit worked differently in the Old Testament. He came upon people there, where He indwells people in today’s world.
The Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Old Testament. Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (KJV)
Judges 6:34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him. (KJV)

Isaiah 40:12-15 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? 14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. (KJV)
The doctrine of the Trinity is taught very clearly in the New Testament, yet millions refuse to believe it.
Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. John 1:32-34 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. (KJV)

(KJV)
Acts 1:4-5 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. (KJV)

*****Sovereign (absolute, supreme, ultimate). The sovereignty of God is how He rules His Creation. Sovereignty is what makes Him free to do what He knows is best for us. Even though He is in complete control, He has also given us a free will to obey OR reject His leading. The Bible is full of Passages that show God leading or commanding people to do certain things. Sovereignty can be defined as having supreme authority, control, and power over all that has happened, is happening, and will happen in the future in all times across all history. Christians define sovereignty as the Ruler of the Universe, God, having the right, the authority, and the power to govern all that happens and what has, is, or will happen being in accordance to His divine will. Almighty God has the absolute right to accomplish His purposes as He sees fit, He has the power to bring about circumstances that order whatever He wills to come to pass. He has complete control of everything and there is nothing that is done that is not done by Him or allowed through His will.
