Listening to God is Vital
To Walking with Jesus

I believe that listening to God is the wisest thing that anyone can do! So, HOW do we listen to God? Just open the Bible, then open your heart to hear and start reading! And finally, take His wise advice!

Psalm 81:8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me; (KJV) . . .This goes for us today too!
Psalm 81:13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! (KJV) . . . This includes us!
Isaiah 55:3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. (KJV)
1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. (KJV)

One of the most important lessons we can learn in life is HOW to listen to God. In our sometime crazy and hectic lives, nothing is more serious, nothing more necessary and nothing more rewarding than hearing what God has to say to us and obeying Him. A true conversation involves BOTH talking and listening. Most of us do better with the talking part.

Psalm 81:8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me; (KJV)

One of the most important lessons we can learn in life is HOW to listen to God. In our sometimes crazy and hectic lives, nothing is more serious, nothing more necessary and nothing more rewarding than hearing what God has to say to us . . . and then to obey what He tells us. A true conversation involves BOTH talking and listening. Most of us do better with the talking part.

God the Father wants His children to walk in the light of His son, Jesus Christ! We can do this only when we LISTEN to what He has to say to us!
Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (KJV)
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (KJV)
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (KJV)
2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (KJV)
Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (KJV)
Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (KJV)
Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: (KJV)
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (KJV)
This is how God the Father wants us to walk in this life on Earth! Let us LISTEN to Him!

Does the Lord really speak to us today?
The Bible assures us that He does.

The Book of Hebrews opens this way:
Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (KJV)

God is NOT silent. God the Father is alive and very active. He speaks to ALL His children . . . individually . . . and in ways that we can hear Him, receive His message, and obey Him. He is unlimited and He is fully capable of communicating with each and every one of us . . . right where we are . . . in the middle of our circumstances, no matter how difficult we think they are . . . and in a very personal way. He speaks to us One on one, and IF we are wise, we will LISTEN to Him!

Listening to God is one of the most important things we can do to learn how to live a Godly life in this evil world. When the Lord speaks, He is speaking to you. The Word of God is the main way we have to HEAR God speak to us! The Holy Bible contains His Truth, so we must take it in a very personal way. We must allow His Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds so that we will have a deeper understanding of the Scriptures. When we do, we can claim His Promises for our life. We will also gain a much deeper understanding of His provision, care and love for us.

My dear friend, God is very serious about His relationship with you. He loves you dearly!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

God speaks to you for your benefit! It is most important for you to listen to Him and respond in obedience. There will be times when He will challenge you to change your thinking, or try to get you to cast off certain unhealthy feelings and opinions. And there will be times when He will make you see that you should change traits of your behavior. But, with every coaching He offers, you can be 100% sure that it is for your good. He really does want to encourage you and get you to grow in Him so that you might live your life with greater faith and joy. He really wants to transform you into the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. God the Father wants you to be the very best you can be.
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. (KJV)
Romans 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: (KJV)
Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: (KJV)
Phil. 3:20-21 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. (KJV)

Learning to listen to God by reading His Word is the most important thing you can ever do because there is NO other way to enjoy the amazingly wonderful abundant life He offers to us. Let us all pay close attention to what God has to say. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (KJV)

Obedience to Jesus
ALWAYS brings blessings

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (KJV)
Psalm 112:1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. (KJV)
Psalm 128:1 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. (KJV)
Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (KJV)
Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. (KJV)
Luke 6:47-49 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48  He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49  But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. (KJV)
Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. (KJV)
John 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. (KJV)
John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. (KJV)
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (KJV)
1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. (KJV)
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (KJV)

We are blessed indeed if we hear the word of God, and keep it. This simple request of Jesus often serves as a stepping-stone to some of life’s most wonderful blessings.

Simon Peter illustrates what can happen when we say yes to God.
Luke 5:1-11 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2  And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3  And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6  And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7  And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8  When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9  For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10  And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11  And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. (KJV)

Many times when Jesus preached, large crowds would press against Him. On this day, the Lord wanted to use Peter’s boat as place where He could speak to the multitude, so He asked the future apostle to take the boat out a little way from the shore (vs.3). This was not such a big request. But when Peter agreed to Jesus’ request, it opened the way for a life-changing blessing. I think this is a valuable lesson for all of us. We can learn how necessary it is to obey God in even the smallest matters.
When Jesus finished His Message to the multitude, He told Peter to Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets (vs.4). This was Peter’s second chance to say yes or no to Jesus. This time Peter probably was tempted to say no. Peter was an experienced fisherman, and he had worked the entire night for a catch but had not caught a thing.
Now this young Teacher (carpenter) was asking Peter to go fishing again. Peter’s response reveals the beginning of a lifetime of faith in God. Peter said “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” (vs.5).
The soon-to-be disciple (and apostle) chose to obey the Lord and to leave the result of his decision to the Lord.
What happened as a result of Peter’s obedience? Jesus proved His power and sovereignty. Peter and his partners started the day thinking their efforts had yielded nothing . . . but it ended in complete amazement because they pulled in not one but TWO boatloads overflowing of fish (vs.7). Saying yes to the Lord’s request resulted in a miracle that transformed not only one fisherman’s life but the lives of the entire group.

WHY is obedience critical to a successful Christian life?

Obeying God in small matters is a big step to receive God’s greatest blessings. If Peter had said anything other than YES . . . he would have missed the greatest fishing experience of his life and a tremendous blessing! But Peter obeyed . . . and the Lord provided a miracle that he would never forget. Dear one, God’s greatest blessings sometimes come as a result of our being willing to do something that appears very minor, unimportant or stupid in our eyes.

There are many good results of obedience.  Obedience to God opens the door to all that He has for us.  It opens the door of His blessings to us and keeps us in His will.  Obedience to God keeps us in tune with Him and gives us the power of God. When we obey, we place ourselves firmly in His love where we see His awesome glory. John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (KJV)

Results of obedience.

<><><>Our obedience makes us God’s friendJohn 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. (KJV) . . . To be a friend of God awes me. It is hard for me to understand  it. It is wonderful and heartwarming just to think that the Almighty Creator God is willing to be a friend to anyone who will come to Him and obey Him.

<><><> By our obedience we get to know God’s will for us. The more we obey and do what God tells us to do, the more we get to know Him as a friend, for the more we grow as His friend the more He will reveal Himself and His will to us. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV)

<><><>By obedience we bear good fruit.  A life that is obedient to God will always bear good fruit. John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (KJV)

<><><>By obedience we find power to continue to obey. Your original decision to obey God (to submit and surrender yourself to God) gives you a power over sin. It sets you free from sin.
Romans 6:16-18 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (KJV) . . . When we present ourselves to God to obey Him, He gives us a power over sin and a power to continue to obey Him. Verse 18 tells us that by our obedience, we have made ourselves a servant of righteousness. So, being a servant, we are duty-bound to continue to obey God and to be holy.  It becomes our nature and our desire to obey.

<><><>By obedience our prayers will be answered. One marvelous thing happens when we obey God is that our prayers will be heard and answered. This does NOT mean that God answers our prayers just because we are obedient. That is NOT how God works!
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (KJV) . . . It seems that our ability to pray to the Father on His Throne, and receive answers is a type of fruit.  See our Book on Prayer: https://www.worldlychaos.org/w_c_books_prayer.html
