New Heaven and New Earth
The New Heaven and New Earth will actually be better than what we will experience during the Millennial Kingdom. They will be our FINAL abode and something awesome happens when we get this New Heaven and New Earth.
When we go into the 1000 year Millennial Kingdom . . . we have Jesus literally coming down from Heaven to rule our Earth from the city of Jerusalem.
When we get the New Heaven and the New Earth . . . we will then have God the Father Himself, literally coming down from Heaven to our New Earth and New Heaven to live and dwell with all His children forever! We will have both God the Father AND Jesus living with all of us forever in this New Heaven and New Earth!
WHAT will happen?
2 Peter 3:10-14 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [11] Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, [12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? [13] Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. [14] Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. (KJV) The promise to which it is supposed the apostle refers, is found in: Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. (KJV) and Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. (KJV) The present Earth, though destined to be burned up, will NOT be destroyed, but shall be renewed and purged from all moral imperfection, and made the eternal abode of God's children.
The Earth which was in Noah's time, perished by the Flood waters. The present Earth, which was renewed out of the one destroyed, shall, at the day of judgment, perish by the fire of God’s wrath. That such an event will take place is very possible; and, from the words of Peter, is very probable. It is more reasonable to believe that the Earth shall be refined and restored, rather than utterly destroyed. God made the first one! He then remade the one after the Flood! He certainly has the wisdom and power to make a New Heaven and New Earth!
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. (KJV)
1. Our Earth, as we know it now, and our atmospheric heaven will pass away. In its place, we will be getting a New Earth and a new atmospheric heaven. There will no longer be any seas. 2/3 of this Earth is now water. With all of the seas taken away, there will be much more land in which to accommodate everyone.
2. There will no longer be any night in the New Heaven and New Earth. It will always be daylight. There will not be any sun or moon to shine their light. The Bible says that we will no longer have any need of the sun or the moon because the glory of God will now be illuminating the Earth (Rev.21:23)!
3. There will be NO more death. The curse of Adam and Eve will finally be removed. In the Millennial Kingdom, as good as it is going to be, there will still be some who die a physical death for those humans who survive the Tribulation and enter into it physically. Although many will live long lives, some are still going to die physically.
4. There will be NO more pain. We all shall have new spiritual bodies. ALL sorrow, pain, crying and death will be gone! Every tear will be wiped away. There will be NO more sickness, NO more disease! Our new spiritual bodies will NO longer age, corrupt, die or be subject to any kind of illness or disease.
5. All things will be made brand new. I don't think any of us can even begin to imagine what this means.
6. God the Father Himself will now be coming down to our earth to live and dwell with all of us forever and ever. The Bible says that we will no longer need the temple that will be in Jerusalem in the Millennial Kingdom. The Bible says that both God the Father and Jesus the Lamb are the Temple (Rev.21:22). The Bible says that the tabernacle of God will now be with men, that we will dwell with Him, that we will be His people, and that He will be our God forever and ever (Rev.21:3).
7. In the Millennial Kingdom, Jesus will rule the Earth from Jerusalem. It will be God's capital. But, in the New Heaven and New Earth, there will be a New Jerusalem.
The Bible says that this new city will be like a square. It's length will be as great as its width. Bible Scholars think that this city may actually be 1500 miles in each direction. That's big! New Jerusalem will literally be descending down from Heaven itself. This new city will come directly from God.
Revelation 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. (KJV) The building of the wall of New Jerusalem was of jasper . . . oriental jasper is extremely hard, and almost indestructible. Pillars made of this stone have lasted thousands of years, and appear to have suffered scarcely any thing from the wear of time. The City was pure gold, like unto clear glass . . . I can read the description of Heaven over and over again, and still NOT be able to SEE it in my mind's eye. I really think that nothing of the description of this City was ever intended to be literally understood. Gold and jewels and precious stones have no place in the eternal world. These earthly riches shall be nothing more than building materials for our God.
The Bible also tells us that there are 12 foundations and that each foundation is made with a different beautiful element. It is described in Revelation 21:19-20.The Bible says that its walls are made of jasper. Some think jasper is similar to a diamond, clear as crystal (Rev.21:11). And the city will be pure gold like clear glass. So . . . gold as we now know it is not pure. the foundations of the walls will be adorned with 12 kinds of precious stones: #1 is jasper, #2 is sapphire, #3 is chalcedony, #4 is emerald, #5 is sardonyx; #6 is sardius; #7 is chrysolyte; #8 is beryl; #9 is topaz; #10 is chrysoprasus; #11 is jacinth; #12 is amethyst. Every color in the rainbow and more! Can you imagine the beauty? The City will have 12 gates . . . each gate one single pearl. Pearls are created by oysters. Can you even begin to imagine the size these oysters must be? And the street of the city was pure gold, again, so pure you can see through it! Like transparent glass.
There will be 12 gates, each of the gates being made of ONE solid pearl. The streets of this city will be pure gold. Each of the 12 gates will have an angel on it. There will 3 gates on the north, 3 on the south, 3 on the east and 3 on the west.
Since all of the evil and unsaved people will have already been removed, there will be NOTHING evil left that will be able enter into this holy city that will defile it or cause any type of abomination to occur in it (Rev.21:8; 22:14-15). As a result, the gates to this city will always be open for all to enter in at anytime (Rev.21:25).
Revelation 21:3-5 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. (KJV) God will wipe away every tear and that there will be NO more death, NO more sorrow, NO more crying and NO more pain. All the former things that we knew will pass away, everything will be completely new! God Himself shall be His people, dwelling with them. We shall be His people, and God Himself will be their God. God Himself shall be our Comfort!
Revelation 21:22-27 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. [23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. [24] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. [25] And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. [26] And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. [27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (KJV) The Temple is always associated with Israel. New Jerusalem (Heaven) is the home of God's children, BOTH Jews and Gentiles! There shall be NO literal temple building in the City. Neither the sun or moon shall shine either! The brilliance of Almighty God and the Lamb will be our Light (Mat.17:2; 2 Pet.1:16-18). When Moses came down from the mount after being with God, his face shone so brightly that he had to use a veil to speak to the people (Ex.34:29-35).
And the nations of those who are saved (only Jesus can save you) shall walk in this light, and the kings of the Earth shall bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall never be shut, assuring us of perfect security.
Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: (KJV) God's curse on the ground shall be gone!
Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (KJV) New Jerusalem comes down from Heaven. NO where does it say the City comes and rests on the New Earth. It seems that the city just hangs in space (like our present day Earth). New Jerusalem is the Body of Christ in its new and perfect state, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, beautified with complete perfection.
Conclusion
As bad as things are going to get in this Earth's future, each Christian has to keep his/her eyes on the final end. We will first get 1000 years of perfect peace in the Millennial Kingdom that Jesus will be setting up . . . with Him being the sole and supreme King and Ruler of this Earth. We will then receive the final and ultimate end with the Creation of a brand New Heaven and a brand New Earth . . . with God the Father Himself actually coming down to live with all of us forever.
This New Heaven and New Earth is beyond anything we can possibly imagine. The above Scriptures give only a partial view and partial knowledge of where we all shall be living the eternal life God has promised to us (Mat.7:14; 17:2; Luke 20:36; John 3:15-16; 5:24; 6:50; 8:51; 10:28; 11:26).
A most amazing thing about the Bible is that God wants us to KNOW what lies ahead. He gives us knowledge and information telling us exactly what is in store for ALL of us (good and bad) in the future. The Bible is sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. The knowledge in it are like pieces to the puzzle. The longer you study the pieces, the more clear the picture comes through. God tells us exactly what is in store for ALL of us in the future so that we ALL can properly prepare ourselves to be ready for the climax.
If you think things are bad now in the world, God tells us that they are going to get MUCH worse! (Matthew chapter 24; Book of Revelation). But, no matter how bad they get, God will NEVER give us more than we can bear (1 Cor.10:13). He will NEVER leave us or forsake us (Heb.13:5). His grace is ALWAYS sufficient (2 Cor.12:9).
Always trust Him! God CANNOT lie (Tit.1:2). BELIEVE Him!
The Millennial Kingdom and the New Heaven and the New Earth will be the final reward for all who stand firm in your faith in Jesus, God's only Way to Heaven! IF you keep your mind on the final and glorious end with the New Heaven and New Earth, it will keep you from overwhelming fears the devil throws your way. Jesus has already told us in the Book of Revelation that those of us who overcome (Rev.2:7,11,17,26; 3:5,12,21; 1 John 2:13; 4:4; 5:4-5) in this life will be the ones to rule the nations of the world with Him in these coming eras.
