Characteristics of the New Jerusalem
No More Disabilities:
Isaiah 35:5-6 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. (KJV)
No More Death or Crying or Pain
Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. (KJV)
Isaiah 65:19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. (KJV)
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (KJV)
No More Darkness
Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (KJV)
Revelation 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. (KJV)
The descriptions of the New Jerusalem provide a long list of the things which we long for, fellowship with God, His Presence, His justice, achieving everlasting life, the admiration of exquisite beauty, and the absence of fear, crying, and pain. By every account, New Jerusalem is the Paradise of which all mankind has dreamed since the fall of man.
Revelation 21:5-7 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (KJV)
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (KJV) . . . All the evils of mankind and Satan shall be forever removed!
Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. (KJV) . . . ALL the wickedness gone!
Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (KJV) . . . ALL the wickedness gone!
Sadly, the list of those who are not allowed to enter provides an accurate description of mankind. The reason these people will never be allowed to enter the New Jerusalem is because nothing evil shall ever be allowed in the Presence of the Holy God, and God will live in the New Jerusalem.
How then, does a person become a citizen of this New Jerusalem?
The bible tells us that citizenship is freely granted by the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.
In spite of our shortcomings, all hope is not lost! A person can be made new again by belief in the Lliving Son of God, Christ Jesus. Known as the Lamb of God, He gave His life as a Sacrifice for our sin so that God can call us righteous (Rom.5:1-2) and allow us entry into New Jerusalem:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV)
If we believe in Christ Jesus, we will not perish, but will have eternal life, and this eternal life will be lived out in the confines and vicinity of the New Jerusalem, where Almighty God lives among us.
Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (KJV)
This is a Promise from the Lord Jesus Christ. May His coming be soon!
Revelation 22:20-21 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (KJV)
