New Jerusalem’s Gates Always Open
New Jerusalem’s gates will be open for access around the clock. They will never be shut. It will never be night there! It will never be closing time!
Consider the activities that are connected with New Earth and New Jerusalem.
Revelation 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. (KJV) . . . The nations of the Earth will walk in its light, and the rulers of the world will come and bring their honor and glory to it. The “nations” are those people who live on the New Earth. This to my thinking is Old Testament and Tribulation saints. I may be wrong, but I think only the ‘church’ (from the time of Christ First Coming to the Rapture) will live in this fabulous City. Those living on Earth will travel to New Jerusalem, the Holy City to worship the Living and ever-present God.
Revelation 21:26-27 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.. . . [27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (KJV) . . . They, all the nations will bring their glory and honor into this magnificent Holy City. Nothing evil will EVER be allowed to enter, NO one who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty, NO one who lies, only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be allowed access (Rev.20:15).
So many people think that everyone will go to Heaven. This is NOT so! That is NOT what the Bible teaches. The Bible actually teaches just the exact opposite, that only a "few" believe God (1 John 5:10-12) and accept Christ as their Saviour and LORD and have their name written in the "book of life."
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (KJV)
1 John 5:12-13 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV)
I truly believe that God invites EVERYONE, but only a "few" are chosen (Mat.20:16; 22:14), meaning that most refuse to do it God's way! Every person has a free will, and can choose Jesus OR refuse Jesus. If you choose Jesus, Heaven awaits. If you refuse Jesus, you will never even see Heaven (John 3:3), let alone live there. NOT everyone will be allowed into the New Jerusalem (Heaven); only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Don’t flatter yourself by thinking that you will get in because of your background, your parents, your personality, or good behavior. Eternal life is available to you only because of what Jesus, the Lamb, has done. Only Jesus can secure your citizenship in this marvelous Holy City (Heaven). Trust Him today to make you God’s child. The Book of Life contains the names of all the redeemed throughout the ages. If you have not trusted Jesus to save your soul, you are NOT one of the redeemed, and your name is NOT in the Lamb’s Book of Life. You will never be permitted entrance to this amazing City, for there is a “great gulf fixed” between the saved and the lost (Luke 16:26).
The greatest joy of Heaven, by far, will be that the awesome Presence of our Saviour and LORD, Christ Jesus abides with us day by day for eternity (John 14:3). To me, Heaven is to be with Him!
Again, the “nations” are those living on Earth who come to the City to worship God, bringing their honor and glory to Him. Residents and tourists alike are redeemed of their sin.
Just WHAT do these activities mean? The Apostle John did not make these marvelous predictions out of nowhere! He was repeating, to a large part, prophecies made centuries earlier. Since Scripture is its own best interpreter, we must examine these earlier prophecies to determine what John meant. Isaiah Chapters 60-66 is full of prophecies from which the prophecies in Revelation are drawn. Revelation is a really a commentary on Isaiah, and Isaiah is a commentary on Revelation. Let us look at several of these prophecies in Isaiah.
Isaiah predicted: Isaiah 60:11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought. (KJV) . . . Therefore thy gates shall be open continually . . . thy gates shall be open continually, this expresses the peaceable state of the TRUE church, that she shall be in no danger, nor have any fear of enemies, for there will be none to hurt and destroy in all the holy mountain (Isa.11:9; 65:25); so there was no reason to keep her gates shut (Eze.38:11), Because of the vast stream of people to New Jerusalem continually; people from all parts shall be always coming in, and the gates will always stand open to receive them (Rev.21:25); and as many that come will be welcome! There will be no objection to them, no hindrance of them; ministers and people will gladly embrace them (Isa.26:2), for even though they will continue to come in great numbers, there will be room for them. The gates will not be shut to them, as being unable to receive more; place will be given for them. They shall not be shut day nor night . . . this clause is referred to in Revelation 21:25 but there it is expressed in a different way. Rev. 21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. (KJV) . . . The gates of New Jerusalem will never close, for there is no night there. The gates of the cities were always shut at night for their protection; but in this Marvelous City of New Jerusalem (Rev.21:2), there is no night, so the gates will never be shut! The difference is . . . the New Jerusalem state, the Personal reign of Christ Jesus will be a perfect state, with no night at all in it . . . but with the spiritual reign of Christ in the Millennium (Rev.20:1-4), to which this prophecy of Isaiah conveys, will be an imperfect one, and even though it shall be glorious; it is not perfect, and that is why mention is made of both day and night.
That men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles . . . the whole strength of the Gentiles and their armies, also means the substance of the people, their wealth and riches (vs.5). When Isaiah says that the riches of the Gentiles shall belong to the Church, we must not think this refers to carnal luxury, for it does not . . . it refers to their utter obedience, which the entire world shall render to God in the Church in the last days! Isaiah says that all that is offered to God belongs to the TRUE Church, because God shall NEVER be separated from it.
And that their kings may be brought . . . that they may be brought or led, in any way, such as by the force of truth, to serve God. These powerful kings shall come before the Almighty King Messiah, as servants before their masters!
New Jerusalem and New Earth will be completely uncontaminated by any moral or physical pollutants. Nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into New Jerusalem, only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Sin is a cancer that spreads. Sin never restrains itself to one tiny compartment! In New Jerusalem upon the New Earth, we will NEVER be plagued with any corruption whatsoever! We will never doubt another’s love; never doubt another’s sincerity; never doubt another’s financial policies; never be on guard for a sinister, hidden schemes! What a relief it shall be not to have to battle sin anymore! What a relief to be surrounded for eternity only by GOOD people! People who are all, without exception, working for the best interests of the One and Only Almighty King, God the Father and God the Lamb!
God will one day change His place of residence and the center of His rule from the Third Heaven to the New Earth. He will live in New Jerusalem in union with New Earth.
