What happens to Believers when they die?

2 Corinthians 5:6-8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV) . . . While believers are alive today, we are at home in our body, but we are absent from the LORD, meaning that we are not physically with Jesus. But when our physical bodies die, our spirits go immediately to be with the LORD.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (KJV) . . . SO . . . WHAT does God do with the spirits of unbelievers? He certainly does NOT allow them into Heaven.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV)  

Is Heaven the final destination of the righteous?

Revelation 21:1-3 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. (KJV) . . . The New Jerusalem will leave the heavens to come to the New Earth. God Himself and Jesus, His Son will come down to dwell with us in the New Jerusalem upon the New Earth. The final destination of the righteous is, in some instances New Jerusalem, while in other instances the New Earth. It seems that all who dwell upon New Earth will have access to New Jerusalem, and all who dwell in New Jerusalem will have access to New Earth. Will the present Home of God continue to exist after God comes to take up residence in New Jerusalem? Personally, I think that the Throne of God is at this time is in New Jerusalem, because I think that Heaven and New Jerusalem are one and the same.
