The Beast with 7 Heads & 10 Horns

Rev. 12:1-2 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: [2] And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. (KJV)

The apostle John also saw a great event in Heaven. He saw a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. The woman was with child, and she cried out in the pain of labor as she awaited her delivery.

The 7th trumpet (Rev.11:15) opens the Bowl judgments (Rev.15:1- 16:21), but in chapters 12-14, John is shown WAR between God and Satan. John SEES the source of all sin, evil, persecution and suffering on Earth, and he understands WHY this great battle must take place. The nature of evil is revealed; Satan is shown in all his wickedness. A “woman” is often used a symbol of religion.

Jezebel represents paganism and idolatry (Rev.2:20; 1 K.16:31), the “harlot” false religion (Rev.ch.17). The Bride of Christ represents the TRUE church. WHO is this “woman” in these verses? Some say it is the virgin Mary, others say it is the church. I disagree. The symbolism (sun, moon, starts) gives us a very good clue. There is only one other place in God’s Word that similar imagery is used, and that is in Joseph’s dream (Gen.37:9-11). That referred to Israel, and these verses do as well. This woman here is pictured as being with child, and being in constant pain, awaiting the birth. This is a picture of Israel, from the call of Abram to the birth of Christ. The woman here is Israel!

Rev. 12:3-4 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. [4] And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. (KJV)

John sees a “great red dragon,” not literal, but symbolic. Verse 9 tells us this is SATAN! He is “great” because of his tremendous power. “Red” is because he is a murderer. “Dragon” is because of his brutal, vicious character. The “stars” he drew down from Heaven are the angels who decided to follow Satan.

John SEES this very important event. He saw a huge red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with seven crowns on his heads. “Seven heads” symbolizes Satan’s wisdom (Eze.28:12). “Ten horns” suggests the revived Roman Empire which Antichrist will control (Dan.7:7,20). “Seven crowns” symbolize Satan’s rule over the entire world. The “woman” delivers a “child” (Jesus). At His birth, Satan sent Herod to “devour her child” but God stepped in (Mat.2:13-23) and stopped him.

The dragon's TAIL pulled down one-third of the stars of Heaven, which he threw to the Earth. Then this horrible red dragon stood in front of the woman as she was about to give birth to her child, ready to demolish the baby as soon as it was born.
Dear one, I believe that the LORD God is the One who cast these evil angels out of His Presence because of their open rebellion against Him (Jude 1:6; 2 Pet.2:4; Dan.8:10).

Rev. 12:5-6 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. [6] And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. (KJV)

She, the woman (Israel), gave birth to a male child who was to rule all nations with an iron rod (Ps.2:9). And the child was snatched away from the dragon and was caught up to God and to His throne. And the woman (Israel) fled into the wilderness, where God had prepared a place to give her care for 1,260 days.
The “woman” (Israel) flees to a place prepared by God for her; some say it might possibly be Sela (Isa.16:1-4). During the most intense part of the Tribulation period, this remnant will be well protected by God in this place (Mat.24:16). I don’t know where this hiding place is, but it is there. To us, it really does not matter where it is, only that it does exist and that Israel shall go there at this time.

We now know from history the six kingdoms that have ruled the known world: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.
Because the 10 horns are on the 7th head, these 10 kings will come to power in the future Revived Roman Empire, the coming One World Government.

In the Book of Revelation we first see the Antichrist mentioned in Revelation chapter 6 with the first seal. This will be the beginning of the 7 years of the Tribulation Period mentioned by the prophet Daniel (Dan.9:24-27).

Remember, the Antichrist (a man) is the 7th head, the 7th king. Satan is IN this man, and empowers the Antichrist, just as the Holy Spirit is IN and empowers TRUE Christians!
