PROPHECIES CONCERNING THE TIMES IN WHICH WE ARE NOW LIVING . . .

Jesus and Prophecy

Throughout His ministry, Jesus fulfilled many prophecies. There are possibly as many as 500 Old Testament prophecies about Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah.

In the Sermon on the Mount, He said: Mat. 5:17-19 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. [19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (KJV)

On the road to Emmaus, after His resurrection, Jesus told two of His disciples: Luke 16:16-17 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. [17] And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. (KJV)

Another time: Luke 24:44-45 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. [45] Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (KJV)

Christ said that all parts of Scripture were trustworthy, even to the smallest letter mark, and and that He would fulfill ALL of Scripture.
Jesus spoke to the people about John the Baptist. Mat. 11:8-10 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? [8] But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. [9] But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. [10] For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.(KJV)

When it was time for the Messiah to appear, a forerunner would come and prepare the people so they would know what was happening. Malachi told of this forerunner in the last book of the Old Testament about 450 years before John's coming (Mal.3:1).

After the Transfiguration, Peter, James and John asked about Elijah's coming. Mat.17:10-12 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? [11] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. [12] But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.(KJV) John the Baptist in a way was Elijah, the one who called men to repent and return to God.

When Jesus lamented over Jerusalem, He quoted the Psalms about His Second Coming. Mat.23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. (KJV) Psalm 118:26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. (KJV)

During the last days of His life on the Earth, Jesus spoke of the coming events and showed how He would fulfill the Scriptures. During the Last Supper He said: Mark 14:27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. (KJV) Zech. 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. (KJV)

At the time of His arrest, Christ told the officers: Mark 14:49 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? [49] I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. (KJV) Isa. 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (KJV)

One of the disciples struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. Christ rebuked His disciple. He said He could call twelve legions of angels to defend Himself, but He would not. Mat.26:54 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? [54] But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? (KJV)

Jesus told the disciples who came to the tomb on the Monday after His resurrection: Luke 24:25-27 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. [25] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: [26] Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? [27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. (KJV)

Jesus quoted Old Testament when He gave us our commandments: Mat.22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? [37]  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV) Deut.6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (KJV) Deut.10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, (KJV) Lev.19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. (KJV) All the Old Testament (ALL the laws, ALL the words of tjhe prophets) is based on these two commandments.

The Bible is clear that Jesus accepted Moses, the Prophets, and all the Scriptures as Truth.
