End
Time Events
The
Rapture
The first important
end-time occurrence will be the Rapture, which is described for
us fairly well in the following Passage.
1 Thes. 4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning
them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which
have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose
again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with
him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that
we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall
not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
[17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together
with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall
we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with
these words. [KJV]
#1 The
Rapture is imminent, meaning it could take place at any moment. The apostle
Paul thought it might happen in his life time, for twice, he told
believers that they might be "translated" without dying.
He was very confident and trusted Jesus completely and he included
himself in this number. 1 Thes.4:17 Then we which are
alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the
clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with
the Lord. [KJV] 1 Cor. 15:51-52 Behold, I shew you
a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
[52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:
for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. [KJV] Let us too have Paul’s confidence
in Jesus. While NO one can predict when the Rapture will take
place (Mat.24:36), we can say with hope "Maybe today."
#2 The
Rapture will be discriminating. 1 Thes.4:14-18 clearly teaches that ONLY true believers (born
again children of God) will be included in this awesome
event! The "dead in Christ" will be called first,
then every living believer. We will "be caught up together
with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall
we ever be with the Lord." Jesus does NOT come to the
Earth at the Rapture. We go to where He is in the clouds! And
when we do, we "in the twinkling of an eye, . . . the
dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
We shall receive our new glorified bodies in an instant!

The
Tribulation
Immediately after the Rapture of the church, those who remain here on Earth
(unbelievers and false Christians), will start a 7 year period called the Great
Tribulation.
It is also known as Daniel’s 70th
week (Dan.9:24-27). It will be characterized by the following
events.
#1 The
rise of the Antichrist. There will be an extremely powerful world leader come onto the
scene. Some think he is alive today. He will be called "the
beast," "the willful king," "the
wicked one," and "the antichrist" (2
Thes.2:3-4,6; Rev.13:1-10; Dan.11:36; 1 John 2:18). He will make
his appearance by establishing a false peace for Israel. He will
steadily gain more power and appear to be the savior of society.
#2 War
and bloodshed. The prophet
Ezekiel describes a war in chapters 38 & 39. Many say that
the battle Ezekiel described will occur at the end of human history,
but I have trouble believing the war Ezekiel describes is the
same war that will take place in the Tribulation, because of the
following verse. Ezekiel 39:9 And they that dwell in
the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and
burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows
and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall
burn them with fire seven years: (KJV) The entire Tribulation
period lasts only 7 years (Daniel’s 70th week), and the first
half (3 1/2 years) Israel will be at peace under the peace treaty
of Antichrist (Dan.9:27).
Rev. 16:13-14 And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from
the mouth of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. [14]
These miracle-working demons caused all the rulers of the world
to gather for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day
of God Almighty. (NLT) Rev. 16:16 And they gathered
all the rulers and their armies to a place called Armageddon in
Hebrew. (NLT) It is my humble opinion that Armageddon will
not be a quick battle, but a long, drawn out war which will take
place during the last 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation. It will
end in great victory for Christ! (Rev.19:14-21). Preview of Armageddon
(Rev.14:14-20). Events of the war follows.
-
(a)
The River Euphrates in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq dries up. (Rev.16:12)
-
(b)
Armies from the Orient march toward the Middle East. (Rev.16:12)
-
(c)
Satan incites the world’s armies to fight in the Mideast.
(Rev.16:14)
-
(d)
They all meet in Megiddo or Armageddon (northern Israel).
(Rev.16:16)
-
(e)
The entire world is aflame with man-made nuclear bombs, and
also divine, supernatural catastrophes. (Rev.16:18-21)
-
(f)
Christ comes, ending all world conflicts. (Rev.19:14-21)
There are many disagreements
as to which war it will be, but regardless of the war, God shall
deliver His people . . . NO enemy can stand before His mighty
power!
#3 A
one-world church. There will be a strong, worldwide religious organization described
in Revelation 17 as an evil, immoral woman called BABYLON THE
GREAT. She is portrayed as riding a scarlet colored beast. It
seems that this universal religion will cooperate with Antichrist
in a vicious attack and persecution against all who try to turn
to Jesus during the Tribulation (Rev.13:7; 17:6). Antichrist will
shortly think this "Harlot" is a threat to him
and will completely destroy it (Rev.17:16).
#4 Persecution
of the Jews. The Tribulation is called by many names: the
Great Tribulation (Mat.24:21-29); time of trouble (Dan.12:1); that day (Luke 21:34-36); the day (Jer.30:4-7); time of Jacob’s trouble (Jer.30:4-7); day of the Lord (Joel 2:1); great and terrible day (Joel 2:31); day
of visitation (Isa.10:3); time of their visitation (Jer.46:21); day of recompence (Hos.9:7); dreadful
day of the Lord (Mal.4:5); day of the Lord Jesus (1
Cor.5:5); hour of temptation (Rev.3:10); wrath to come (1 Thes.1:10); great day of
His wrath (Rev.6:17); beginning
of sorrow (Mat.24:8); wrath of the Lamb (Rev.6:16); Daniel’s 70th week (Dan.9:26-27); fiery
furnace of God’s wrath (Eze.22:17-22); indignation (Dan.11:36); day of wrath, trouble, distress (Zep.1:15).
The Tribulation period (Daniel’s 70th week) is God dealing with
the Jews (Dan.9:24-27). At this time they will experience horrendous
persecution, worse than they have ever known (Mat.24:15-22). Matthew
24:21 For then shall be great
tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world
to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (KJV) Zechariah
predicted that 2/3 of the world’s Jewish population will die (Zec.13:8).
Many who finally come to Christ will be martyred. Revelation 7:9-17
reveals there will be a great number who entered Heaven, who came
out of the Great Tribulation.
#5 Antichrist’s
reign comes to an end. Antichrist will reign only because God allows him to reign. He
will be an instrument of judgment used by God to satisfy God’s
holy and righteous wrath. But when the 70th week has ended, Antichrist’s
reign will end! He will have complete power for just 42 months
(3 1/2 years), the last half of the Tribulation period (Dan.9:26-27;
Rev.13:5). This will be a time of God’s outpouring of His wrath
against all evil against Israel and all nations.
Christ’s
Glorious Return
The Tribulation
will be brought to a dramatic conclusion (Dan.11:36-45;
Zech.14). Zech. 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that
day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the
east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof
toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very
great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the
north, and half of it toward the south. (KJV) On His Return,
as soon as Jesus’ Feet touch the Mount of Olives, great topographical
changes will occur. In the final battle of Armageddon, the armies
of Antichrist will be completely destroyed by the KING OF KINGS
AND LORD OF LORDS. Believing Israelites will then weep in repentance
(Zech.12:10).
Judgment
#1 The judgment of
Israel. Christ, the Almighty Judge, will decide who qualifies for His
Kingdom, and what roles they will have (Eze.20:30-44). It will
be at this time that Jesus shall decide who will enter into eternal
punishment, and who will enter the Millennium.
#2 The
judgment of the nations (non Jews). All living Gentiles will also be judged at this time (Joel 3:2;
Mat.31-46). Jesus will decide who will go into eternal punishment,
and who will go into the Millennium. All those unbelieving Gentiles
who have died before this time, will be resurrected after the
Millennium for their judgment (Rev.20:5, 11-15).
Christ’s
Glorious Reign, the Millennial Kingdom
When Jesus returns He will also
begin a 1000 year reign on Earth as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF
LORDS. This reign of Christ will be marked by the following.
#1 The
restoration of nature. The pristine beauty of the Earth that has been destroyed by man,
shall be restored. Deserts will become wonderful productive gardens,
and animal life will change drastically (Isa.11:6-8; 30:25-26;
35:1-7; Hos.2:18).
#2 The
end of physical suffering. Anyone who enters the Millennium with any kind of deformity will
be healed (Isa.35:5-6). Lifespans will be longer (Isa.65:22).
Marriages will be happy (Jer.33:11). Children will play in the
streets (Zech.8:5).
#3 Peace
and justice. The KING (Jesus) will rule the Earth from Jerusalem.
It is from there that He will oversee worldwide peace and justice
(Isa.2:3-4; Zech.3:10). There will be no more war in Jesus’ Kingdom
(Isa.2:4; Rev. 20:1-6).
#4 Spiritual
worship. In the Millennium, people everywhere shall love the
Lord and worship Him gratefully, gladly and willingly, as it should
be (Mal.1:11; Zech.14:16). The purpose and plan of God’s creating
the world will be realized and understood in this prospering kingdom
ruled by the Lord Jesus.
The
Final Rebellion
Sin will not be absolutely abolished
in the Millennium. Men will still be in the flesh (Isaiah 65:20).
But, sin will no longer be a universal power, for the flesh is
not any longer seduced by Satan who has been imprisoned. He will
not be, as he is now, "the god and prince of the world."
Christ will reign with His transfigured (raptured) saints over
men in the flesh. This will be the revelation of "the
world to come."
People will
still have the desire to sin, even in the perfect conditions
of the Millennium. They will obey God only because they are afraid
not to. Satan, who was bound at the beginning of the Millennium
(Rev.20:1-3), will be freed for a short period of time. The dragon
will not be bound as punishment, that occurs in Rev. 20:10. He
was bound so he cannot deceive the nations. But at the end of
the Millennium (1000 years), God will free him. WHY free him?
So many people ask. It will be a final test from God, to expose
those who rebel against God in their hearts and confirm those
who are truly faithful to God. Satan’s release will result in
the final destruction of all evil (Rev. 20:12-15).
Satan will immediately
start a world-wide rebellion. War! again war! Many men and women
who were in the Millennium will join Satan and his demon army.
He will stage one, final all-out attack on God. Will he win? NO!
God will send down fire from Heaven and devour all the evil forces
(Rev.20:9). Satan will then be stopped forever! Rev. 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of
fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are,
and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (KJV)
Satan will be cast into Hell which was prepared for him and all
who follow him (Mat.25:41), where he will spend eternity.
It amazes me that more
people do not take advantage of God’s grace and God’s GIFT (salvation
through faith in Christ). Why do people follow Satan when it is
SO clear that he is doomed to the pits of Hell?
The
World Destroyed and Judged
Closely linked to Satan’s final
rebellion, is the destruction of this present day world as we
know it (Rev.20:11; 2 Pet.3:10; Isa.24:19; 34:4; 51:6). Out of
the devastation of the Earth’s destruction by fire, will
emerge a bright, new and glorious world. It will be at this time,
that the unsaved of all ages will be resurrected (Dan.12:1-2)
to stand before the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev.20:11-15)
and will receive punishment for all they have ever done, and be
cast into the Lake of Fire. This judgment will absolutely be fair
and just. ALL will finally acknowledge that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of the Father (Phil.2:11), but it will
be too late for them to be saved.
The
World Transformed
The apostle John saw emerging "a
new Heaven and a new Earth" (Rev. 20:10). He describes
the New Jerusalem descending from Heaven to the transformed Earth.
This pristine new world will be beautiful beyond words. Nothing
that caused sorrow will be permitted to enter in. Nothing will
mar the happiness of its inhabitants. There will be NO tears,
NO sorrow, NO pain (Rev.20:4). NO violence, NO rebellion, NO lawlessness,
NO war, NO immorality (Rev.21:27) ever again!
We will see our God
in all His majestic glory. We will enjoy His Presence forever
more. We will worship Him out of a love filled and grateful heart
and soul.
No temple will be in
Heaven, for God Himself is our Temple (Rev.21:22). No sun or moon
will be needed as light, for God’s brilliance will lighten it
(Rev.21:23). All through out eternity we will abound in spiritual
love, joy, peace and contentment. We will have eternity to adore
our precious Saviour and Lord for we shall forever be with Him
in the bliss of Heaven.
