Last Days Prophecy

Apostasy is deserting your faith, being a wayward child, and turning away from God. It is forsaking your belief in God. "Forsake" is apostasy, and it rarely ever comes about quickly. It is a slow, gradual process, with the old devil behind it.
When did apostasy start? In the Garden of Eden is the answer. Adam and Eve had a perfect environment and a perfect fellowship with God. They submitted to God in all things . . . at first. Then Eve made the mistake of talking to the devil! Satan is God's enemy, and he was the very first apostate (Isa.14:12-14).
Satan knows Scriptures! He quoted them to Jesus (Mat.4:1-11). And he twisted Scripture to Eve, making her wonder about the Truth of God's Word. That's how Satan works. He is one sly, tricky and devious critter!
WHAT was the devil's objective? To get her to "forsake" . . . turn away, turn her back on God. The command God had given to Adam was NOT to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen.2:17; 3:1). Eve yielded to the seduction, and Adam joined his spouse in rebellion against God. Hence . . . the seeds of apostasy took root.
Apostasy has been a part of every generation since the fall of mankind. Scripture tells us that it will culminate in the last days when the Antichrist is revealed. His religion will be an apostate Christianity. The complete OPPOSITE of Biblical Christianity! It will be every "religion" imaginable . . . EXCEPT true Christianity! It will be a melting pot for ALL all religions.
Even though the apostasy will not come to a head until after the Rapture of the church (1 Thes.4:13-18), it has been building and increasing daily. Down through church history, many true believers, either in ignorance or because of the weaknesses of their flesh, have contributed to apostasy. Solomon seems to best way to illustrate this. As a believer in the one and only, Almighty God, he was used by God to build the Temple and to write much of the Book of Proverbs, Song of Songs, and Ecclesiastes . . . BUT . . . he strayed away from God's Word in many ways.
Solomon's Folly that led to Apostasy:
- Luxurious Living . . . 1 Kings 4:22-23
- Marrying Heathen Women . . . 1 Kings 11:1-3; Neh.13:23-26
- Excessive Sensuality . . . 1 Kings 11:3
- Oppressing The People . . . 1 Kings 12:4
- Sanctioning Idolatry . . . 1 Kings 11:4-7
- Multiplying horses (1 Kings 10:26-29), that was contrary to the Law (Deut. 17:16).
- Wealth . . . (1 Kings 10:14-27)
- Turning his heart from the Lord . . . (1 Kings 11:4)
- Outright idolatry . . . (1 Kings 11:5)
- He gave his heart to know madness and folly . . .(Ecc.1:17).
- He gave his heart to mirth and pleasure (Ecc. 1:17-2:1).
- He gave his heart to wine, drunkenness and folly (Ecc.2:3).
- He set his heart on riches, treasures, singing, music, and all that is connected with such a life (Ecc. 2:8).
- He gave himself over to unbridled lusts and passions (Ecc. 2:10).
- He applied his heart to know the wickedness of folly and the foolishness of madness (Ecc. 7:25).
- He had bitter experiences with women (Ecc. 7:28).
- All unbridled lusts proved to be nothing but vanity when they were fulfilled (Ecc.2:10-11).
There was NOTHING that Solomon desired that he could not have, and there was NOTHING that he could have that he did not experience or possess; yet absolutely NOTHING satisfied him. Everything left him empty and feeling that all was vain. When a person shuts out God, there remains an empty, unoccupied God-shaped hole! It will always be so with those who turn from God after knowing just how good He is. (2 Pet. 2:20-22).
To summarize, apostasy began with the sin of the first two humans on Earth, will greatly increase in the Last Days, and will be complete when the Antichrist rules this Earth during the seven-year Great Tribulation period. As the world moves toward the apostasy's total fulfillment, all Christians will be vulnerable to its destructive seduction.
What is the answer? HOW can we keep from giving in to things that would draw us into the apostasy? I think the following is a great start! Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (KJV) . . . This is Godly instructions as to how to live a spiritually fruitful life in the Lord. Scriptures warn against walking in the counsel of the ungodly, standing in the path of sinners, or sitting in the seat of the scornful. This reveals a regression (a moving backward) from waywardness to wickedness. The tragedy is that the heart becomes hardened to God's Truth, and a person's attitude turns to scorn when confronted with it.
We are NOT to follow the counsel of the ungodly (unbelievers). This means we must reject any counsel that does not agree with the Word of God. In Proverbs 14:12; 16:25, it warns that there is a way that SEEMS right to people but it is NOT God's way. If it is NOT God's way, we had better stay away! It leads only to the ways of death, meaning a separation from God's Truth that will end with eternal destruction. (2 Thes.1:8-9).
Fewer and fewer "Christians" who SAY they are Christians, really believe in the sufficiency of the Word of God for "all things that pertain to life and godliness" (2 Pet.1:3). So-called "evangelicals" are turning to the ungodly wisdom of the world. The evangelical church refers people for psychological counseling services. BEWARE!!! Those shepherds are turning their flocks over to professional psychotherapists, who are really just out to make a buck off the Word of God. They are out to increase the numbers of their flocks by turning to marketing techniques, such as Rick Warren's "Seeker Friendly" Church Growth Movement.
Just what is an "Evangelical Christian"?
"Christian" is the term given to followers of Jesus Christ in the first century A.D. (Acts 11:26). "Evangelical" comes from the Greek word meaning "good news." An evangelical Christian is a "born again" child of God (John 1:12-13; 3:3-8), who shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ (good news) of the salvation that is available through Jesus Christ. An evangelical is a person dedicated to promoting the good news about Jesus Christ. This is NOT so with many of today's pastors who call themselves "evangelicals."
ALL Christians should be "evangelical Christians." The Bible continually instructs us to be witnesses of the good news (Mat.28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Pet.3:15). There is NO better news than Jesus, anywhere! IF we are TRUE Christians, we will do as commanded!
WHY is apostasy spreading so quickly among evangelicals? One good reason is that many are simply Biblically illiterate. Nearly everyone has a Bible, BUT, those Bibles are NOT opened! Although nearly all "Christians" have Bibles and are able to read, FAR too few ever read them, and those who do read them, do NOT make it a practice that guides their lives.
A survey of more than 35,000 American adults and found that 57 percent of those who claim to be evangelicals believe that "many religions can lead to eternal life." http://religions.pewforum.org/ How sad! This is pathetic. These people simply do not take seriously the verses in which Jesus states that HE is the ONLY Way to Heaven! (John 14:6; Acts 4:10-2). The Bible states that this will happen in the last days (2 Tim.4:3-4).
In these modern times, fundamental Biblical "Christians" and an exclusive way of salvation are viewed by "the world" (1 John 2:15-16) as intolerant. This is an accusation that many "evangelicals" cannot handle, especially those who do not know the Bible well enough to give a Biblical response. No one can "contend for the faith" (Jude 1:3) if they are ignorant of the Bible. Being able to defend your faith can only come about if you take God and His Word Bible seriously, and have a disciplined study of the Bible.
The believer who continually meditates on God's Word will find that he can prevent apostasy, AND strengthen his faith AND have a closer personal relationship with God. Plus, a continued study of God's Word is the basis for being spiritually fruitful: Psalms 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (KJV) . . . It also equips the believer for the spiritual war that is now raging.
The root of the spiritual battle is over the Word of God. Satan's strategy is to discredit the Scriptures in every way and by every means possible. We must NOT deny the Truth of God's Word! We must NOT deny Christ Jesus! Those who do NOT recognize that they are in such a battle may have already been captured by the lies of the Adversary. The Apostle Paul wrote that we are NOT to be ignorant of Satan's devices (2 Cor.2:11).
Ephesians 6:13-18 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (KJV) . . . A person cannot put on the armor of God IF they do NOT know what it is! The only way to find out is the BIBLE!
As we walk the road to eternal life, we must fight the good fight of faith, remembering that our weapons are NOT carnal but spiritual (2 Cor.10:4). Our WAR is over the Truth, and the goal is being "able to withstand in the evil day" (Eph.6:13) above. Our victory is simply to stand firm for God and His Word.
We need to reach out to other TRUE believers for fellowship, spiritual protection, prayer, encouragement, counsel, correction, comfort, and to love and help one another. If we do this as we wait for the Lord to come, even though apostasy is all around us, we shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever we do shall prosper in the Lord.
