Gospel Briefs on Isaiah Chapters 1 thru 33

The Prophets

ISAIAH
Isaiah was a prophet who spoke against compromise among GOD’S people. This made him less than popular. But in doing so he reveals so much to us today about GOD’S holiness, righteousness, and much about Christ Jesus as GOD’S suffering servant (Isa 53). GOD often used Isaiah as a visual aid to demonstrate what He was trying to get them to understand. In Isaiah 20:2-6 he is told to preach naked to show the people that they too would be shamed if they followed earthly rulers over GOD. Isaiah teaches us that GOD does act as Judge but He does so in order to teach us and redeem us.

Date of Writing: The book of Isaiah was written between 739 and 681 B.C.
Purpose of Writing: The Prophet Isaiah was primarily called to prophesy to the Kingdom of Judah. Judah was going through times of revival and times of rebellion. Judah was threatened with destruction by Assyria and Egypt, but was spared because of GOD’S mercy. Isaiah proclaimed a message of repentance from sin and hopeful expectation of GOD’S deliverance in the future.

In spite of the diverse political situations described by Isaiah, there is a moral unity and unity in the Book of Isaiah. Assyria and Babylon are morally one; serving GOD’S purpose in their turn, with each falling in the end because of its pride. Some Passages, for instance Chapter 26, could refer to either Assyria or Babylon: for prophecy often demonstrates the ability to place or consider in a new or different context.

The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 1 . . . Isaiah prophesied in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. The LORD vilifies a people laden with iniquity, with no soundness from foot to head . . . the wickedness of Judah. The cities are overthrown by strangers. Only a very small remnant remains. Ritual observance is worthless when they do evil. They need to do well, and care for the needy. The faithful city has become a harlot. It will be purged to what it was before, and become the city of righteousness once more.

Chapter 2 . . . In the last days, the LORD’S House shall be established on Zion, and all nations shall flow unto it. The LORD shall judge the nations, and rebuke many. They shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruninghooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation. The land of the house of Jacob is full of gold, silver and idols. The LORD shall level the land, including the mountains, the towers, and the proud.

Chapter 3 . . . The LORD will take away all people of status from Jerusalem and Judah, and give babes to rule over them. The LORD will punish pride, including that of the daughters of Zion, who are wanton and mincing, and wear all manner of finery. The LORD will smite them with scabs and other afflictions. The men and the mighty shall fall in war.

Chapter 4 . . . There shall be Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem. The calamities of war will be so great that seven women shall be left to one man. Purged of filth, the LORD will bless the remnant, and the pillar of cloud by day and fire by night will be created in every dwelling place, and in all the assemblies.

Chapter 5 . . . Israel is like a vineyard, which will be abandoned because it produced only wild grapes. Woes are promised for a variety of sins, including drinking, feasting, pride and calling evil good. GOD’S wrath is kindled against His people, the LORD will allow a foreign nation to devastate the land. Its roaring shall be like a lion.

Chapter 6 . . . Isaiah gets a vision of the LORD in the year that king Uzziah died. He saw the LORD on His Throne, and above it, he saw the seraphims. Each one had six wings . . . with two they cover their faces, with two they cover their feet, and with two they fly. Isaiah fears he is undone because he is a man of unclean lips. One of the seraphims lays a lump of burning coal in his mouth, and tells him his sins are burnt away. Isaiah receives his prophetic commission . . .  strangely, it is to ensure that the people do not understand, and are not healed. The LORD will remove men far away, but a tenth shall return. Isaiah 6:8-10 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. 9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. (KJV)

Chapter 7 . . . In the days when Israel and Syria joined in league against Judah in the days of Ahaz. Via Isaiah, and in the presence of his son Shear-Jashub (meaning, ‘a remnant shall return’) the LORD tells Ahaz not to fear, for the attack will not succeed, and Israel will no longer be a nation in 65 years’ time. The LORD will give a sign: a virgin will conceive, called Immanuel, GOD with us. Before the child can distinguish good from evil, he will be eating curds and honey (the land will be back to producing plenteous food), and both Israel and Syria will be defeated. But, the Assyrians (whom Judah had called upon for help) will inflict heavy calamities upon Judah. Isaiah counsels against a Judah-Assyria alliance to counter the threat from the Israel-Syria one.

Chapter 8 . . . The coming Assyrian invasion. Isaiah has a son, whom the LORD tells him to name Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz, which means ‘speed to the spoil, hurry to the plunder’. Before the children can call his mother and father, the riches of Damascus and Israel will be taken away by Assyria. The Assyrian army, compared to water, will overflow its banks and flood Judah with violence and destruction. Judah can prepare for the invasion by fearing God rather than Assyria. Seek the LORD’S light and Word, not the darkness of the occult.

Chapter 9 . . . Judah will not suffer as much as Israel. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. ‘You’ will deliver the land, ‘for unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’ Because of their unholy pride, Israel will be defeated by her enemies: its head (elder and honorable) and tail (false prophet) will be cut off. The people of Israel will also attack each other. Exile and slaughter will be a punishment for social injustice.

Chapter 10 . . . Judgment on arrogant Assyria. Woe to Assyria, the unintentional instrument in the Hand of the LORD . . . it will be punished for its arrogant superiority. Shall an axe boast against him who chops with it? Do not be afraid of the Assyrians – the LORD will preserve a remnant of the house of Jacob. Isaiah prophesies attacks on a number of specific Juhan cities. The proud of Judah will be humbled.

Chapter 11 . . . The Righteous Reign of the Branch. A shoot shall come forth from the rod of Jesse, possessing the seven spirits of God. He will judge the poor with equity, and slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb. The Gentiles shall seek Him. The LORD will gather together scattered Israel. Peace will reign, and neighboring nations will be subdued.

Chapter 12 . . . The LORD JEHOVAH is my Strength and my Song. Praise will be offered to the LORD when His anger has passed away. You will draw water from the well of salvation. Praise shall be sung – great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!

Chapter 13 . . . The burden against Babylon. Burden = a message from GOD causing sorrow. An army comes against Babylon. A day of the LORD is promised . . . a great massacre shall occur, and mortals be more rare than gold. The Medes will be stirred up against Babylon. Babylon will be laid waste, and populated only by wild beasts.

Chapter 14 . . . Restoration of Jacob. Israel will be settled in its own land, and rule over strangers. The whole Earth will rejoice at the fall of the king of Babylon. The pomp of Babylon shall come to nothing, and be received in Hell. How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! The fall is a punishment for aspiring to be like the Most High. The nations will be amazed at the complete reversal of fortune. Unlike other kings who sleep in glory, the king of Babylon will be cast out of his grave. Assyria and Philistia will also be crushed.

Chapter 15 . . . The burden against Moab. The cities and soldiers of Moab fall under a night attack. Refugees will flee from Moab. Refugees and the remnant of Moab will be attacked by lions.

Chapter 16 . . . Moab shall send the lamb (representative) as tribute to Jerusalem. Judah is to be a place of refuge and protection for the Moabites. Moab is then counselled to be a refuge for Israel. Moab shall wail at the judgment of GOD against it. Judgment will come in three years.

Chapter 17 . . . The burden against Damascus. Damascus will become a ruinous heap, and Israel (the northern kingdom, referred to as Ephraim, its dominant tribe) will wane. GOD’S judgment will bring man’s work to nothing. Many nations will rush against Syria and Israel like the rush of many waters. These nations will also be rebuked, however.

Chapter 18 . . . A Prophecy about Cush. Chapter 18 deals with the fifth burden, that of the land beyond the rivers of Ethiopia. The exact nation that Isaiah had in mind has not been clearly established. Some think he is talking about Egypt, but the description does not fit that country. And too, Egypt is the subject of the next chapter, where we see that GOD is not through with that kingdom. It seems that Ethiopia best suits the text and theme of Scripture. But which Ethiopia is intended? There are two mentioned in Scripture. The word for Ethiopia is Cush. There is one in Asia (Gen.2:13), and there is one in Africa. Maybe this speaks about the Ethiopia that is in Africa. Ethiopian help is not required to deal with Assyria. The LORD will cut off Assyria’s sprigs with pruning hooks. Ethiopians will come to Zion to worship GOD.

Chapter 19 . . . The burden against Egypt. The LORD strikes Egypt by giving them over to civil war and submission to a cruel master. The Nile will be dried, and the Egyptian economy thereby ruined. Foolish counsel has caused Egypt to stagger like a drunk man in his vomit. Judah will be a terror to Egypt. The Egyptians will turn to the LORD, and a savior shall deliver them. There will be a peace between the three former enemies of Egypt, Assyria and Israel.

Chapter 20 . . . A Sign Against Egypt and Cush. In the year of the fall of the Philistine king Ashdod at the hands of the Assyrians (711 BC). The LORD commands Isaiah to go naked . . .  as he is naked, so shall the Egyptians and Ethopians be led away naked as captives by Assyria. On this day, Judah will be ashamed that it once trusted to these nations.

Chapter 21 . . . The burden against the Wilderness of the Sea (Babylon). An army from Elam (Persia) marches against it. A report will come to the watchman: Babylon is fallen, is fallen! The (brief) burden against Dumah (Edom): the watchman will report that the morning comes, and also the night. The burden against Arabia: within a year, all the glory of Kedar will fall.

Chapter 22 . . . The burden against Jerusalem. An army is coming, against which there is no deliverance. In that day (verse 25) refers to the Great Tribulation Period, and this verse refers to Shebna as Isaiah pictures the coming Antichrist. So many people will put their trust in the satanic Antichrist who is to come (Dan.9:27; 2 Thes.2:7-10; Rev. Ch. 6 & 13). They will look to him for help, but they will be looking in the WRONG place (Mat.25:41). They will THINK that he is Christ (2 Thes.2:11-12), but the Antichrist will be just as Shebna was, a nail that will not hold up! Consider: have you ever driven a nail into the wall, hung a heavy coat on it, and down it came? Only the LORD Jesus Christ is the Nail in a sure place (vs.23). Shebna was a weak, puny nail that came down, and so too will the Antichrist be, when he comes onto the scene.

Chapter 23 . . . The burden against Tyre. Chapter 23 brings us to the eleventh and last burden against the nations. A burden is a judgment, and these judgments were against the nations around Israel. Each one of these great nations had done something for which GOD must judge them. Let’s consider a brief summary of these eleven nations and what they represent.
*****#1. Babylon represents false religions and idolatry. Idolatry in our land today is covetousness (Col.3:5), which is lusting to have more and more and to accumulate material things of the world.
*****#2. Israel represents true religion which has become apostate. Today this same thing has happened in many churches (Ex.32; Josh.22:22; Jer.8:5; Hos.11:7; 2 Thes.2:2-3; 1 Tim.4:1-3; 2 Tim.3:1-9). They go through rituals, even repeating the Apostles' Creed and the LORD'S Prayer, and from all outward appearances . . . they SEEM to be resting upon the Bible, but in reality . . . they deny everything that is in it, even having homosexual preachers (Lev.18:22-24; 20:13-16; Rom.1:24-32; 1 Cor.6:9-11; 1 Tim.1:8-11; 2 Tim.3:1-9). They are apostate (a deserter of GOD and His Word), which means they are standing far away from what they once believed.
*****#3. Moab represents formal religion; that is, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof (2 Tim.3:5). Many today could be identified with one of these three. Some accumulate material things, for what our eyes see, we want. We are covetous. Some have been brought up in Bible-believing churches but have turned far away from the Truth of GOD’S Word. Millions go to churches that follows forms, ceremonies and rituals which CANNOT save the soul!
*****#4. Damascus represents compromise. That is the SAD position that most churches (even fundamental churches) take today. http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_ec_ecumenism.htm
BEWARE!!! The ecumenical movement is of the devil! BEWARE!!! . . . So many well-known preachers are in this! . . . BEWARE!!! Thank GOD for those TRUE churches that are standing firm with Him!
*****#5. Ethiopia represents missions. We desperately need to be involved in getting out the Word of God! Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV) . . . We are wise IF we do as the LORD Jesus commands us!
Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (KJV)
*****#6. Egypt represents the world. Israel was told to stay out of Egypt. That is where Abraham got into trouble (Gen.12:11-13). We are warned by the Word of GOD, "Love not the world (1 Jn.2:15).  Many of us have trouble with what the world has to offer us, and give in!
*****#7. Persia (Babylon) represents luxury. The United States is a nation that loves luxury. I remember carrying water to my grandmother’s kitchen, and in my home as well for 6 months as we waited for electricity. I remember walking the path to the (outhouse). I remember filling a galvanized tub with water and setting it in the sun to warm for my bath. I remember cooking on a wood stove. I have MANY luxuries today that I did not have 75 years ago. I am grateful for them, but, IF I had to live without any luxuries, I could do it easily. Most could not. Where would the vast majority be without air conditioning?
*****#8. Edom represents the flesh. Many people serve the flesh today (1 Cor.3:1,3). Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (KJV)
*****#9. Arabia represents war. There is war in every corner of this world! There will be NO peace in the world until Jesus comes! (Isa.48:22; 57:21; 59:8; Jer.6:14; 8:11). Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (KJV)
*****#10. Valley of vision, which is Jerusalem, represents not religion but politics. Some idiots think that politics will find solutions to the problems of the world. NO man anywhere can solve this world’s problems, for the master of trouble (Satan) will keep troubles rampant!
*****#11. Tyre represents commercialism (big business). One of the greatest sins today in America is commercialism. They think that almighty dollar can solve all our problems. When a problem comes up, Congress votes on it, but that’s as far as it gets. Poverty programs have hurt rather than help the poor. WHY? Because godless men do NOT have the right answers. Those who are poor suffer because the government supports NOT the poor, but the lazy and illegals.
2 Thes. 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. (KJV) . . . The Bible clearly tells us that we are to WORK, if we are able. We are NOT to be supported by the government! (Gen.3:19; Pro.13:4; 20:4; 21:25; 24:30-34; 1 Thes.4:11). I believe that it is a sin to accept money from the government if you are able to work. Those who are physically handicapped or elderly need help and are entitled to it, but NOT the so-called poor who are physically well able to support themselves.

Chapter 24 . . . Judgment on the whole Earth. The land will be emptied and laid waste. The Earth will mourn and fade away, because people have transgressed GOD’S Laws and broken the Everlasting Covenant. All rejoicing shall cease. The glory of GOD is contrasted with the woe of man. The Earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard. After judgment and punishment, the LORD will reign on Mount Zion, in Jerusalem. The remnant shall turn to the LORD . . . Zec. 14:16-19. . . . Pay attention to end times signs!!!
END TIME SIGNS, Signs that are already here . . . of the Coming Tribulation Period:
*****1. False Bible teachers would be money hungry. They would be smooth talkers, have many followers, and slur the Christian faith. 2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3  And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (KJV)
*****2. Homosexuality would be increasingly evident at the end of the age. 2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (KJV)
*****3. Earthquakes would be in diverse places. Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (KJV)
*****4. Stress (anxiety, pressure, worry) would be part of living. 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (KJV)
*****5. Many wars and reports of wars would erupt all over the world. Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (KJV)
*****6. People would forsake the Ten Commandments as a moral code, committing adultery,
stealing, lying, and killing. Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (KJV) Wickedness is SO rampant: blasphemy and utter rejection of Christ Jesus (GOD), abortion, adultery, alternative lifestyles to suit mankind but are sin against GOD, assault, child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, fornication, homosexuality, kidnapping, murder, parental abuse, rape, etc., ALL are rampant in today’s world! (Gen.6:5; 19:4-5; Lev.18:10, 22; 20:13; Mat.24:38-42; Jn.3:15-18,36; 8:24; Rom.1:20-32; 6:14-15; 13:10; 1 Cor.5:1; 6:18; 2 Cor.12:21; Gal.5:15-21; Col.3:5-9; Eph.4:19; 1 Jn.5:10-13; Jude 1:7-8).
*****7. There would be a cold religious system, in denying GOD’S power. 2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (KJV)
*****8. People would substitute fantasy in the place of Biblical Truth. This is especially so at Christmas when the birth of the beloved Saviour and LORD is lost behind the fairy tale of Santa Claus. Easter follows close behind with the ridiculous ‘easter bunny’. 2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (KJV)

*****9. Deadly diseases would be prevalent. The worldwide increase in AIDS deaths is almost inestimable. Over 160,000 Americans die of cancer each year. Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (KJV) And the recent Covid epidemic.
*****10. The fact that GOD once flooded the earth (the Noahic flood) would be denied. There is so much fossil evidence to prove this fact, yet it is flatly ignored by the scientific world because of its supernatural effect. 2 Peter 3:5-6 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: (KJV)
*****11. The institution of marriage would be forsaken by many (1 Timothy 4:3)
*****12. There would be an increase in famines (Matthew 24:7)
*****13. Increase in vegetarianism would increase (1 Timothy 4:3-4)
*****4. There would be a cry for peace (1 Thessalonians 5:3)
*****15. The possession of Jerusalem would be at the center of international turmoil (Zechariah 12:3)
*****16. Knowledge would increase (Daniel 12:4)
*****17. There would be hypocrites within the Church (Matthew 13:25-30)
*****18. There would be an increase of religious cults/false teachers (Matthew 24:11, 24)
1 Timothy 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (KJV)
Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (KJV)
1 Timothy 4:3-4 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: (KJV)
1 Thessalonians 5:3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. (KJV)
Zechariah 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. (KJV)
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (KJV)
Matthew 13:25-30 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26  But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27  So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28   He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29  But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30  Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. (KJV)
Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (KJV)
Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (KJV)
*****19. The future would seem fearful to many (Luke 21:26)
*****20. Humanity would become materialistic (2 Timothy 3:4)
*****21. There would be many involved in travel (Daniel 12:4)
*****22. The Christian Gospel would be preached as a warning to all nations (Matthew 24:14)
*****23. Jesus said Christians would be hated "for His name's sake" (Matthew 24:9)
*****24: And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  (Luke 21:25-26).
*****25: Youth would become rebellious.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy (2 Timothy 3:2)
*****26: Men would mock the warning signs of the end of the age saying, "for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." (2 Peter 3:4). The Bible even reveals their motivation, they love lust (verse 3). They fail to understand that a day to the Lord is as a thousand years to us. God is not subject to the time that He created. He can flick through time as we flick through the pages of a history book. The reason He seems to be silent, is because He is patiently waiting, not willing that any perish, but that all come to repentance.
The world at large is a huge mess.  What some see as only common occurrences, others see as signs of the end times!
Not everyone can see what is happening in the world today.  Not everyone can see the signs of the times. Many cannot place these events into Bible prophecy. Why?  Because many are blind to the truth, and they do NOT want to know or see it.

Chapter 25 . . . GOD is praised for His righteous judgment, and for assisting the needy. A feast will be prepared on Zion. Death will be swallowed up forever, and all tears wiped away. People will proclaim a GOD they have waited for, and who has saved them. The pride of Moab will be brought down, as the LORD spreads out His Hands like a swimmer reaches out to swim.
Coming . . . the Kingdom
After the LORD Jesus comes and ends the Great Tribulation Period, He shall establish His Kingdom. Chapters 25 and 26 take us into the Kingdom Age. The King IS coming, and there shall be a Kingdom of Heaven upon this Earth. This has been predicted all through the Old Testament. And when John the Baptist began his ministry, his message was, "...Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mat.3:2). And the LORD Jesus continued on with the same theme, "...the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mat.4:17).
But the LORD Jesus was rejected as KING by His own people! John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (KJV) . . . You cannot have a Kingdom without a King. When He was rejected as King, He then said: Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (KJV) . . . That invitation is still wide open today! It is a message to be sent out to people today, and the LORD wants you to answer. Whether you know it or not, you will make a decision today. You will either accept Him or reject Him, because you have a free will to do so. Christ Jesus will NEVER force you to choose Him! BUT . . . there is NO neutral ground. You cannot sit on the fence. If this day, you reject Him, you made your decision, and you shall deeply regret it! Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. (KJV)

Chapter 26 . . . The LORD will keep you in Perfect Peace! The strength of the city will be celebrated because the LORD is the source of the city’s strength. The LORD will bring down those who dwell on high. The LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the Earth for their iniquity . . . only the upright will desire the LORD, and He shall ordain peace for us, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee for the wicked shall remain unaware as the fire of enemies devours them. All masters other than the LORD are dead. The dead shall rise. The Day of the LORD’S judgment will come.

Chapter 27 . . . The first verse of Chapter 27 seems like it should be connected with the last two verses of Chapter 26. Chapter 27 refers to the same time period as Chapters 25 and 26, which speak of the last days, and of what shall happen at that time: such as the destruction of the anti-Christian powers, and Satan at the head of them, which brings the happy state of the church under the care and protection of the LORD, and His love for it. We see the peace, prosperity and thriving condition of GOD’S people, the end of all their afflictions and chastisements, and the ruin and destruction of the city of Rome and all its inhabitants, and where the great whore committed fornication and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication (Rev.17:1-2). We also see the great gathering and conversion of the LORD'S people, both Jews and Gentiles (Gal.3:27-29), because of the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Rev.7).
Chapter 27 ends the wonderful song of the Coming of the Kingdom which we have in Chapters 25 through 27. Chapter 27 seems to be the nature, degree and plan of GOD as He deals with His people.
Shall punish leviathan . . . what is the leviathan? It is obvious from Job 41:1, that it was a very great and terrible sea-monster. But here it is certain that the expression is symbolic, and that this leviathanserpent, dragon (all mean the same thing) Isaiah knows it is a very powerful enemy of GOD . . . and it means His church or His people. It may well be called leviathan, partly for the great power, and partly for the great fear and destruction which these enemies of GOD cause upon the Earth, as does the leviathan in the sea. He (the serpent) seems to have a special respect for some precise enemy and oppressor of GOD’S people; either the Assyrian emperor, who now was at that time; or rather the Babylonian one to come. Some understand this of the devil; but although it may be applied to him in a spiritual sense, it seems to be literally meant of some powerful and visible adversary; which seems to agree more with the following verses, and to the usage of Isaiah and other prophets.
The dragon that is in the sea . . . Sea, flood and waters, are all symbols of many people (Dan.9:26; Isa.17:12; Jer.47:2; Rev.13:1; 17:1, 15). The sea, mentioned here may be symbolically understood to be the greatness of the empire of the Antichrist, and the multitude of his subjects, when compared with Rev.17:1,15. Isaiah is comparing GOD’S slaughter of the wicked to the conquering of a great enemy. Even though evil is a powerful foe, GOD will one day crush it and abolish it from the Earth forever. Leviathan, is another name for Satan (Isa.27:1 Job 41:1, 34).
Five facts about the leviathan:
1. The piercing serpent ((Isa.27:1).
2. The crooked serpent.
3. He is a sea serpent (Isa.27:1; Ps.104:26).
4. He has seven heads (Rev.12:3; 13:1; 17:3, 7-12).
5. He is king over all the children of pride (Job 41:1, 34).
Such a monster is a fitting symbol for Satan (Rev.12). Leviathan will be defeated.
Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. In the Kingdom of the LORD, the city of man lies desolate. The LORD God will be worshipped at the holy mount in Jerusalem by all His people in eternity (Zec.14:16-17).

Chapter 28 . . . Isaiah Chapters 28 through 33 forms almost one continuous prophecy concerning the destruction of Ephraim, their mocking irreverence of GOD’S Laws, sin, wickedness and folly of Judah. There was danger in their association and union with Egypt, and the destruction that they would be reduced to by Assyria, from which the LORD God would deliver them . . . when they returned to Him. Chapter 28 refers to the time just before the 6th year of Hezekiak's reign, the rest (chapters 29-33) was not long before his 14th year.
Judgment on Ephraim and Jerusalem. The drunkards of Ephraim will be trampled underfoot. The beauty of the LORD (Ps.27:4; 90:17), will replace the faded beauty of Ephraim. Judah also sins with drunkenness. Scornful men have made a covenant with death. GOD will lay in Zion a stone for a foundation. The bed is too short to stretch out on, and the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself in it. The timing of a farmer is compared to the timing of the LORD. Chapter 28 is a good illustration of the combination of the near and far view, the past and future events, the local and immediate and the general and far distant prophecies. We will see that which has already been fulfilled and that which is yet to be fulfilled.

Chapter 29 . . . Woe to Ariel (Jerusalem) . . . for its pride shall be humbled. But the humbled Jerusalem will be protected from its enemies. Jerusalem suffers from spiritual drunkenness and illiteracy. However, the spiritually blind will see, and justice for the wicked be administered. They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine. It will help if you compare this Chapter with our LORD'S discourse on Jerusalem in Matthew 23:37 through 24:2, and also in Luke 13:34-35; 21:20-24.

Chapter 30 . . . Do Not Go Down to Egypt! Woe to the rebellious children who look to Egypt to protect them from Assyria. Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: (vs.10). The people do NOT want prophets to prophesy deceits instead of the Truth! IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME TODAY! The TRUE seers told them their faults, warned them of the misery and danger that could be expected because of their sin, but they simply could not listen. The people wanted to hear only things that pleased them . . . NOT the things that agreed to the mind and will of GOD.
Judah will be broken like a potter’s vessel. Blessed are those who wait for the LORD.

Chapter 31. . . Woe to those who look to Egypt rather than the LORD. The LORD is mightier than the Egyptians. The LORD will defend Jerusalem. The children of Israel are warned to repent. This is the fifth woe. It is pronounced on those who go down to Egypt for help. This definitely has a message for us today. Woe to you and me IF we turn away from GOD and turn to some help from the world. God expects us to use common sense we were born with! God loves us, but He is a jealous God (Ex.20:5; 34:14; Deut.4:24; 5:9; 6:15; Josh.24:19; Eze.39:25; Nah.1:2). GOD wants to be number #1. in your life! He wants you to rate Him at the top of your list of priorities (Mat.10:37; 22:37; Phil.3:7-9). Where do you go for help? It is nice to ask others for advice, BUT. . . we should go to GOD for help (Ps.20:7). Most of us have an Egypt that we look to and depend on for help. The real cause of Israel's difficulty was that they did NOT look to GOD, they did NOT trust Him, they did NOT seek Him. Since they rebelled against Him, they in a frantic state turned to outside, physical display of power. WRONG move for them and us! BEWARE!!!

Chapter 32 . . . This contains a prophecy of King Messiah. Even though it does apply to Hezekiah, as a type of Christ, it shall have its full success in Christ Jesus, in His times; who is described as a Righteous King, and as having just princes ruling under Him, and as a very great blessing, protection and comfort to His subjects. There follows a prophecy of great light and knowledge that would be in His days, of the vileness, hypocrisy and covetousness of the Jews in His times, and the destruction of their country, because of their despicable sins, of which they were hard-hearted and unconcerned. They are warned to lament and feel sorrow for their sins. The result of which would be great peace, safety and success to the saints and destruction to their enemies, and above all the city of Rome. The Chapter concludes with the happiness of the Gospel and the success of it.

Chapter 33 . . . Aggressive Assyria will itself be plundered. Zion will be filled with wisdom and righteousness. The Earth will mourn and lie waste. The breath of the LORD will devour like fire. Sinners shall be afraid, but the righteous will see the King in His beauty. Zion, the city of appointed feasts, will be blessed and delivered. GOD uses everything possible to bring His people to be faithful to Him. This was to be expected because Israel was GOD’S covenant people . . . but . . . they (and we) are not to take GOD’S grace for granted. A great warning of persistent sin is clearly seen from Assyria’s destruction of Israel in the north (Isa.28). God is always very serious about sin. It is complete obedience that God wants from the Jews and Gentiles.
