The MARRIAGE SUPPER of
The Marriage of the Lamb will be one of the most amazing events
in all human history! It will be an accomplishment that will carry out the
desires of the Father for His Son. The "bride" is the New Testament
church (born again believers), who will become the Lamb's wife. This includes
all believers from the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), to the Rapture (1 Thes.4;16-17;
The church is described in the New
Testament as the "bride of Christ."
Rev. 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven
angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked
with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
Rev. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that
heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let
him take the water of life freely. [KJV]
A "virgin espoused to her husband." 2 Cor. 11:2 For I am
jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband,
that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
Christ is pictured as the bridegroom
of the "bride" (church, born again believers), while God the Father
is portrayed as the husband of His wife (Israel). Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the
day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which
my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
When will the marriage
Supper take place? After the Rapture (1 Thes.4:13-18; 1 Cor.15:51-52; Mat.24:36-44; John
14:1-3; Titus 2:13), and before the return of Christ to
the Earth (Zec.14:3-4; Mat.24:27-30; 25:31-34; 2 Thes.2:1-8; Jude
1:14-15), two very special events shall take place. Those being
the Judgment Seat of Christ (Rom.14:10; 1 Cor.3:11-15; 2 Cor.5:10),
and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. See: Judgment
The "bride" is depicted in the
following verse. Rev.
19:8 And to her was granted that she should
be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness
of saints. [KJV] Please remember that ANY righteousness that saints have
comes only from Jesus! 1 Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus,
who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification,
and redemption: [KJV] Any/all righteousnesses we have, or claim to have are completely unacceptable to God the Father! Isaiah 64:6 But
we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy
rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have
taken us away. [KJV] We MUST believe, accept and receive Jesus or we are
"unclean" in God's eyes. See: 1 John 5:10-12.
Only the Bridegroom (Christ)
and the bride (the church, born again believers) will participate in the Marriage
Supper of the Lamb. Old Testament and Tribulation saints will apparently just
be "guests" at this wondrous event, along with a multitude of angels.
Some scholars, which I am not, think this celebration will take place in Heaven,
but will continue on Earth during the Millennium (the 1000 years) , while
others think it will last for eternity. To me, it really does not matter if
it is in Heaven or on Earth, or it lasts one day, 1000 years, or for eternity.
What matters to me is that ALL who have accepted Christ (John 1:12-13), will
be eternally blessed . . . that means from here on!
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall
not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. [KJV]
2 Cor. 7:1 Having
therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
To better understand the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, some
ancient Jewish marriage customs may be helpful. When a young Jewish man chose
the woman he wanted to marry, he went from his father's house, to her home
to discuss a marriage covenant with her father, also the purchase price he
would have to pay to make the woman his own.
Once the prospective bridegroom paid the price, the marriage
covenant was made, and the man and woman were then regarded as promised to
each other. From that moment the bride was declared "sanctified"
(set apart) entirely for her bridegroom. Symbolizing the establishment of
the marriage covenant, the bride and groom drank a cup of wine, after a betrothal
Before the bridegroom left his bride, he made her a special
promise: "Let not your heart be troubled,
I go to prepare a place for you, and I will come again."
After the marriage covenant was completed, the bridegroom
went back to His father's house where he stayed for days, weeks; possibly
While he was away from his bride, the groom built a bridal
chamber in his father's house as he prepared for the coming wedding day. The
bride, in her father's house, was preparing her wedding dress, And making
herself ready for her beloved groom. All the time she waited for him to return,
she wore a veil as a symbol of her dedication to her groom. She would not
be seen by strangers.
When the groom had made all things ready, he, his best man
and groomsmen would proceed in a torchlight procession to the bride's home.
He then would receive his bride and take her with him. Though the bride expected
her bridegroom to come at any time, she did not know the exact day or time.
His only warning to her was a shout . . . which alerted her to come out and
greet her groom.
Then the groom, his bride and the entire wedding party, returned
back to his father's house where the father had prepared a great marriage
The bridegroom and his bride then went into the bridal chamber
for their first physical union. The best man waited outside the chamber waiting
for the groom's pre-arranged signal.
During the 7 day wedding celebration, the bride remained in
the bridal chamber.
When the marriage was accomplished, the groom signaled the
best man who told the good news to the guests. When the 7 days were completed,
the bridegroom brought his wife out of the bridal chamber (without the veil),
for all to see.
